Seeing as 10,000 Days was just released (and I'm a new tool fan, myself) it would be interesting to see what people think. Myself? I think it's a masterpiece. I don't think any of their albums are weak anywhere and this one carries on an already impressive discography. But otherwise, the band itself? Interesting music, unique, and the music videos are fascinating.

I have not heard their new album. I am really weirded out by some of their music videos, but love their music.

It's amusing - it's almost seems like Tool with a heavy dose of recent Neurosis. All in all I enjoy the album, I don't mind the mellow intensity, but I'm not really fond of Rosetta Stoned - for some reason I just cannot stand that song.

Lateralus is their masterpiece. But 10,000 Days doesn't really come close to the greatness of Lateralus, although it is quite good. I really like Tool's originality, the way they can put the mystery in their music and keeping it interesting all the time. Just like Pain of Salvation, a few listens were needed before I really started to like them. And I didn't regret listening more to it at all! Lateralus is among my favorites now, with Parabola, Lateralus, Disposition and Reflection as the highlights!

10.000 Days is a masterpiece. I cant stop listening to it, simply amazing. But it still dosent top Lateralus IMO, but who knows, maybe it will, after some more listenings. Songs like Jambi, The Pot, Right In Two and Rosetta Stoned are among the best songs they have ever made. Im going to see them live this summer, at Roskilde Festival, and I have really high expectations for this show. Great band.

18.05.2006 - 16:54 Written by [user id=2084] on 18.05.2006 at 01:20 I agree here. That was the exact same thing I thought after hearing the new album for the first time. I think you should listen a lot to this new album before drawing your conclusions and opinions about it. To me, it grows stronger every time I listen to it and every time I find new parts that fit together (listening to 10.000days is like solving some kind of weird and difficult puzzle) and I find parts that surprise me again and again. Although I find it hard to compare, I still think 'Lateralus' is better, although this album is a bit different... I'm going to see them live within a month and I have the feeling it's going to be a weird/strange-sounding concert and I'm sure a lot of people - who aren't into Tool - aren't going to like it...

I don't think the album carries any weak songs, I really am impressed with it ... been listening to Jambi a lot lately. Oh and in regard to the album title.... I'm not sure where exactly it comes from, but I hear it's taken from Revalations in the bible?

21.05.2006 - 18:54 Written by Avenant on 21.05.2006 at 18:48 No, it should be the approximate number of the days Maynard´s mother was paralysed before she died. At least that is what I have heard.

@ Avenant and uhu : uku is right ! "Marie" is the middle name of Keenan's deceased mother, Judith Marie Garrison As Keenan explains in his commentary on aMOTION, Judith suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. The length of time between the paralysis and her death was 27 years, or approximately 10,000 days. (wikipedia) And here are some other track informations : - Vicarious means either "experienced or gained through someone else" or "done on behalf of others". The song is about how people live vicariously through others' misery. - Jambi is an island in Indonesia. - In a Guitar World interview, Jones confirmed that the title of "The Pot" was a reference to an idiomatic term for hypocrisy (ie, the "pot calling the kettle black"). - The Lipan are an Apache tribe, also known as the "Tall Grass People". - An April 7 post on the official Tool website specifically mentioned Dr. Albert Hofmann (the "father" of LSD) and stated that he first synthesized LSD on that date. - The Rosetta Stone is an archeological artifact of carved granite found in Egypt. The tablet was used as a key to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs; its name was also used as a nom de plume for children's author Dr. Seuss. - The protagonist in "Rosetta Stoned" is confirmed to be only known by Maynard James Keenan. This is from a May 17 post by Blair Mackenzie Blake. - "Viginti Tres" is Latin for "Twenty Three" - the number has a lot of historical, mathematical, and occult significance. - When "Wings for Marie (Part 1)" and "10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)" are played in sync, along with "Viginti Tres", the songs appear to have been deliberately structured for simultaneous playback.

21.05.2006 - 22:53 Written by Thryce on 21.05.2006 at 22:18 I´ve heard that, too. "Viginti Tres" becomes more meaningful when considering this aspect. I unfortunately have my technical complications for playing them simultaneously

I think you get a big wall of noise if you play them simultaneously, I think that's the hidden meaning. Lol, Tool is very special and put a lot of meaning in their lyrics, but things like that are just a bit too far fetched for me.

This may not be far fatched because if you look the lengths of these songs you´ll see they match. "Wings for Marie" + "Viginti Tres" = "10,000 Days"

Lol. I have just tried to mix those songs together. But it really doesn't make sense. Trust me! The chords together don't match, and all of a sudden you hear Maynard singing in both tracks at the same time (if you know what I mean), and it all gets too mixed up. It doesn't make sense, I guess it's a joke or something. If you don't believe me, just try it. It really sounds aweful when mixed together. [add] But it did encourage me to listen to this album again! I think I've listened to it way too less. I think I should listen to it more from now on.

Strange, in one forum, I read that (rather trustworthy) people had tried it and it worked. Maybe you played them out of sync. But who am I to judge

Heh, could be that I played them out of sync. But still there was some big wall of noise at some point in the mixed track. I don't think I can avoid Maynard singing in both tracks at the same time. Or I need to put Viginti Tres in front of Wings For Marie, but I'm too tired to try that out.

Yeah....they've got some of the most talented musicians in music today I think. I idolize their bassist Justin Chancellor...he's so innovative with his fretless. Also, Danny Carrey's one of the best drummers I've heard...listen to Ticks and Leeches; speaks for itself. Top 5 band for me. New CDs good too...but I must agree with what I read earlier...Rosetta Stoned seems a little subtle and affectatious for me...I love Vicarious and Right in Two though.

On a first listen the album defientely drags and offer nothing new from TOOL. But a closer examination of the songs and their hiddne meanings reveal a wealth of deep emotions and social comentary. Once again TOOL proves to be one of the more creative ALT PROG bands out there. But I must say I'm getting bored of their sound.
