A great death band in my opinion. Great growls, and wow, that woman sounds so amazing!

Of course! Angela Gossow is far better than Johan Liiva IMO. His vocals were too roughened and unrefined for my liking.

Oh come on.... His voice wasn't that bad. I actually like the Johan period better than the Angela period. You can't beat Black Earth and Stigmata.

Another vocalists discussion Yep, I agree with Dream_Of_Hate. His vocals were fairly 'rough' but that's a good point about them! Arch Enemy sounded more like pure Death Metal back then. Angela's voice does seem to fit their new Gothenburg style and she doesn't sound as good. And they've gotten more and more of a Gothenburgy sound over time. Stigmata is my favourite album, by the way.

I agree. Has anyone notice the synth/robotic effects they add to her voice, that being said, angela is quite flawed and you are clearly not hearing her true "raw" voice, unlike Liiva, who (i believe imho) they should have never disposed of Liiva to begin with as he provided true or more "raw" vocals, although the rest of the band is still brilliant, even nowadays.

Absolutely, it was the first thing that I was drawn to on the new album and it put me off for quite a while. Anyone who's seen them live know she's doesn't sound like that, she has quite a low raw bellow rather than a synthetic robotic screach. i did get used to it however but I'll always prefer Johan.

Prefer Angela for the exactly same reason as Daru Jericho.
Arch Enemy is a very good band, don't own any of their albums but I do have a lot of their songs in my MP3. I'm in love with songs like "We Will Rise", "Nemesis" and "Dead Eyes See No Future", rough, melodical and insane!!!

Arch Enemy is the most chaotic group that I've heard. Angela's voice is absolutely incredible, I've never thought that a girl could sing whit that fury!!! Well, when Angela wasn't a member of Arch Enemy, they were also great, specially in "Burning Bridges", a fucken masterpiece, but... if we listen "Anthems Of Rebellion" or, specially, "Wages Of Sin", we'll see that Arch Enemy have improved their sound a lot. Gothenburg Metal? Of course! Their best songs are: "The Immortal", "Ravenous", "Leader Of The Rats", "Nemesis".
GREAT GROUP!!! Reccomended!!!

Nice band, like Angela more. Wages Of Sin is a good album.

*I am not replying on anyone who thinks that Liiva is better, I don't care for that discussion right now*

I don't think Arch Enemy "disposed" him, but I think he left on his own, saying he had lost interest in the music industry.

Arch Enemy is my fav death metal band. They are just amazing, and I can't get bored with them. I love their powerfull riffs and melodic guitar solos, needless to mention Angela's voice. Their sound is just unique, no doubt about that!
My fav songs are: Savage Messiah, We will rise, Dead eyes see no future, Instinct, Nemesis, My apocalypse.. I'd like to mention Enemy Within too, because it's one of the best songs I've ever heard as a beginning of an album! Great band!

This is the band that pretty much pulled me into the more heavy style of melodic death metal. I loved their album Wages Of Sin, which I had downloaded at the time, and I bought the Doomsday Machine album when it was released in Europe. I think it is a very good album with abso-bloody-lutely amazing guitar riffs and powerful songs that have you growling along in a matter of seconds. I wake up to the thundering tunes of the album every morning!

I hope that I can see this band live at some point. I am really interested in the live DVD that they have coming (Live Apocalypse), because the band itself is really happy with the result. Michael Ammott even went as far as to say that it surpassed some of his personal favourite live DVDs. I would help you to the cover, but it has not yet been made available.

On a sidenote: the new video to the song My Apocalypse is killer! If you haven't seen it, watch it here.

Arch Enemy is one of my fav bands! The first time I listened to them I couldn't believe that was a woman singing/growling. They have powerful and awesome riffs by Master Amott and worderful vocals by Angela Gossow.

Well, my fav Arch Enemy album is Anthems of Rebellion, which was the first one I've listened to. I also love their EP Dead Eyes See No Future, which brings amazing covers to 'Incarnated Solvent Abuse' (Carcass), 'Symphony Of Destruction' (Megadeth) and 'Kill With Power' (Manowar), and IMO, all of 'em are better than their original versions. And I really want to listen to Doomsday Machine .

Yea, that's true, but that's like mere basics to make an average video.
A good video, in my opinion, has more than just passion

Arch Enemy - We Will Rise (the video) is way better in my mind.

Did you notice that the "My Apocalypse" video was basically the same thing as the "Nemesis" video? It almost looked like they used the same video and played another song over it.

I think that Johan sucked ass live too! I'm pretty sure "Burning Japan" was mixed and edited in a professional studio yet Livia's vocals are still junky. He has such a deep voice when he speaks to the crowd, i.e "Tokyo, tonight we r recording a live album", so you expect his growling to give a bear a heart attack but... Anyway in studio he was pretty good! I love Arch Enemy now more than ever!!! \m/
