With first Swallow The Sun and now Gaerea, late October seems to be the time for established bands to undertake a bold new direction that may redefine perspectives of said groups. Coma is a somewhat radical next step for a band that have quickly established themselves as rising stars in black metal.

The clean vocals caught me off guard... Since when they are playing blackgaze?

All that cover art can make me think of is the fire giant from Elden Ring. Even though it looks nothing similar, outside of the fact that it's an eye.

As always, high quality, modern-sounding Black Metal done properly.

Quite a few people have clearly channeled their disappointment by hitting low ratings. I don't think it's justified. It's a very good record. High quality, a very enjoyable listen. I like how it builds upon Mirage, it's less ferocious - maybe, there's more beauty in it instead, and they're still being uncompromisingly themselves. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is the formula they seem to have found. A bit more diversity in the structure of the songs would come a long way.

Yeah, a bunch of haters went in early to downvote this... seems like Gaerea is rustling some feathers

Just like every other new album?

There are bands that provoke this effect more than others, especially when they are on the rise and make variations in their sound, especially a more traditional one (like black metal).

Two 4's are the lowest ratings, I feel like Gaerea has dodged the more blatant and severe rating abuse.

Not specifically to the fire giant (i havent encountered him), but when I first saw the cover art, the first thought that came to mind was "ELDEN RING"

This seems to be a very good continuation of the excelent work Gaerea have been doing in the past two albums. I was not a big fan of the inital sound (too much generic modern BM à lá Mgla sounding), but after they started playing with more post sounds, they definitely became one of my favorite Black Metal acts, also about time we had another household name coming from Portugal .

This is a noticeable improvement over Mirage and it's one of the few albums I've heard this year that didn't disappoint. Some parts do blend together a bit but there is a very good amount of variation in the songs and I'm glad they developed some stuff in between their soft acoustic parts and playing full throttle. The clean singing and choirs go a long way too even though there isn't an overabundance of either. The sound production is awesome.

The Poet's Ballet, Shapeshifter, and Unknown were probably my 3 favorites but all the songs stand out in a slightly different way. I wouldn't call the album perfect, but I can't really think of much that they could work to improve on after this. A pleasant surprise since for a while I was considering skipping it.
