Because the whole Cradle Of Filth image seems to be marketed toward girls, even if that isn't true, most female metalheads I know are attracted to that whole gothic type thing. So the fanbase is becoming (if it wasn't already) more associated with pre-teen girlies. You even explained it yourself, their music is "beautiful", not exactly the atmosphere you want with black metal.

Well, actually they're gothic metal, not black... And symphonic metal usually has something beautiful and that's true even with Dimmu. Nymphetamine is a girl album, but not their other stuff.

In those terms I would say that dimmu with their leathermale audience is more gay than cradle with their girls.

Off the top of my head I'd say Cradle of Filth are the biggest sellouts because they strayed the farthest out of there original sound so fast just to gain a bit more money, Or so it seems to me.

Dimmu Borgir on the other hand are just boring because their music is so flat nowadays. I know Dimmu can make good music based on what I've heard of their first few albums. The same can be said about CoF too though. I just don't like any of there material. Even their old stuff. Its just annoying and generic to my ears

Dimmu is superior to CoF. CoF is the biggest sell out ever and make sub par albums. Point and Game.

Even though I don't download and I hate the idea of it. I know that the whole downloading thing doesn't effect the Metal genre as much as others. I've seen some statistics and while rap has lost 40-50% profit. Metal has only lost 5-10%.

Bands should make most of their money touring anyways because the bands don't even see that much of the money from album sales. Don't get me wrong though. I hate people who download too much. Especially when discography's are downloaded. That burns me up

Its all about marketing dude. Just as Barbie dolls are marketed toward females, so is CoF, just not to such an extreme extent. Dimmu don't really use ultra-masculine imagery or feminine, but they happen to attract more men than CoF. Where as CoF you can sort of judge by the music and imagery its highly feminine, the kind of people that are attracted to that kind of theme are the same people that collect fairy figurines.

And what is wrong with "female-intended metal"? You must be lacking testosterone to hate or love music just because it sounds male or not... Gothic aestethics always had something feminine about them, no? Moonspell, Paradise Lost, Graveworm, all that bands have something female about them, and it's not a bad thing in itself, it just give their music some grace and beauty. COF mix that feminine beauty with masculine brutality and violence and I personnally love that mix.

I think that Shagrats and Tjodalvs voices are better than Danis..much better

Cradle And Dimmu From My Favorites bands but I think Dimmu Borgir better than Cradle Of Filth In all respects

Espicially The Vocals I think Stian Tomt Is The Best

I keep a better memory from COF's show than Dimmu's, personnally. But COF was my very first show, so I guess I was kinda impressed by the brutality of a metal show. And Dimmu were not the principal band that evening. Danzig was and damn they fucking suck I can't possibly understand why are Moonspell and Dimmu on a tour with such horrible hard-rock grandpas...

They don't make the arrangements for the most part. Its the label and seldom the band members themselves. Just look at my page or search the 'Winterfire Festival'. You've got Shining and Endstille and then this shitty Folkish 'Black' shit (sorry, but I can not stand it!). And also, Shagrath's 'Chrome Division'.

Well, as a matter of fact, In Sorte Diaboli is considered by many Dimmu fans as the epitome of commercial shit... I personnally love it, but you're wrong saying it is a proof Dimmu won't ever disappoint. On the other hand, Cradle DID disappoint me with Nymphetshit and Shitography, but I'll forgive them cause Godspeed rules and is IMO much better than Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, which is supposed to be a masterpiece. But then, I never was a "true BM" fan.

I didn't say that Dimmu Borgir doesn't have commercial worries "THEY REALLY HAVE".. and yes "Stormblast" and "For All Tid" and "Spiritiual Black Dimensions" were better than In Sorte Diaboli, but it doesn't dissapoint me that much actually. Dimmu doesn't make fans surprised, but Cradle does and it's not good as wee see in comments

To be fair what do you consider either band's "sellout moments"? Black Metal has evolved so much over the years, to a point where it's originators probably wouldn't recognise it anymore. That said, Dimmu are often labelled as sellouts whereas Arcturus (whom I love) are considered avantgarde. The dimmu bassist/clean vox sung on more than one Arcturus album and that's not the only similarity in the music.

Having said that (and I do agree with this topic for the most part - I just wanted to ask) I think Dimmu are the superior band. Although, at a point in time, Adrian Erlandsson played with Cradle and I honestly think they made solid albums.... up until, say, 2000. After that the slide really began (and I suppose you could say it began with Midian). Dimmu still seem to be able to churn out something decent, although I hate Death Cult Armageddon sucked.

Hmmm....Can't deny that CoF ARE sellouts a bit...But,they are not my all-time-favourite band because of their sellout work.Listen to everything that came before Midian.Best music ever.After Midian,the great albums are Damnation and A Day and Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder.So,tehnicly,they only have 1 half-sellout(Midian) and 2 real sellout albums.
But,Dimmu Borgir are nothing better.In Sorte Diaboli is commercial to the max,if you ask me.And they do have other sellout albums.Say,Death Cult Armagedon,and in it the song Progeines of the Great Apocalypse,for example.I mean,WTF was that?Clear vocals,few guitar fiffs....Not to mention that the whole song sounds like a theme song for a movie.

Jjajaja yeah... trying to find in stores some underground bands is a pain in the ass and you can only trust to get an album by internet and that's it.
That's why downloading isn't that bad because we need it sometimes

I guess Quebec is a good place for underground metal, then... I managed to buy an Unexpect album at HMV in St-Jéröme (a ridiculous shit hole that's meant to be my regional capital...). Not to mention oldest CoF stuff and yes, Gorgoroth (but I didn't buy this one cause Gorgoroth is the worst shit ever).
