Some people honestly just don't have enough.

If a criminal breaks into my house in the middle of the night, I should be allowed to have a gun and shoot him. Criminals will have guns whether they are legal or not. The crazy Romanian rednecks who shoot people in their lakes will have guns whether or not they are legal. Outlawing them among law abiding citizens would simply make break-ins much easier.

yet, how many times has that happened in your life? just because it happened to some dude you used to know 10 years ago does not mean that (if you live in a normal neighborhood) your house will get broken into. what if aliens abduct you, you should probably also get a GPS tracker implanted in your skin so your friends know where you are.

I only agree with guns in a recreational scene, target shooting is fun. Guns in a redneck 'get off my property' way is not fun. Guns + low intelligence = shot off foot/blown off face/death.

Everyone should have a gun surgically grafted to their arm. Because it's a whole different story when everyone has one.
It's no longer a matter of "shoot this guy", it's "shoot this guy before he shoots me"
Or, we could all just live in peace and have no use for guns other than propelling objects across great distances, and NOT towards other living organisms.

Where I come from the only people who are allowed to own guns and have them in their homes are certified hunters, people in these shooting range clubs, collectors....and that's about it....so I voted no....I don't see why people whould need to have guns except for those reasons.

One thing that differ us from animal is that we created guns. god bless technology, god fucks our minds

I have no problem with guns, I don't own one, but around here lots of people do, for hunting.
As for the killing other people, its the people not the guns. Banning guns is the sort of knee-jerk reaction, like when a parent was hit in the face with a soccer ball at a school in southern ontario, the parent suffered a concussion and as a result the school banned all balls from the school.

While I won't vote on this poll right away, as I'm being very careful with how I answer.......all I have to say on the matter is,
whether the common person can legally buy a gun or not, the criminal will ALWAYS have access to guns.......
so as far as like gun control goes, in my opinion it cannot work.

My thoughts on this are as follows:

You can't ban drugs, because there will always be a market for it. Since people remain interested and it isn't considered lethal.
As long as there's a market, there will be people who can produce the stuff.
But I don't think the same thing goes for guns. It needs quite some effort to make a gun, it isn't like a hidden LSD lab at all (or cocain).
Guns are produced en masse by multiple countries, and it's not like they hide these kind of things. In fact, you can't hide it, because the industry is huge.

So what will happen if these factories cease to exist?
Exactly.

But then again, they still might be produced in small amounts in some place far away. But then weapons like that aren't really spread far and wide anymore.

I don't know. In the end it really comes down to the people and their intentions. People that don't like or want war will never allow guns to be produced.

The example in the OP is sad, but I still think that people should be able to posses firearms, provided they are deemed responsible, better safe than sorry is my motto.

Guns are entirely and utterly pointless. I challenge anyone to give me one plausible reason for the existence of mans most abominable invention.

Unfortunately the "need" for them is self perpetuating. "He has a gun; therefore I need two guns that are bigger than his". "Oh, he now has two guns that are bigger than my one gun. I must go and get two more guns that are even bigger!". And thus, the vicious cycle goes on.

I love guns. They are fun to shoot. Great for competitions. And the only evil connected with them are the evil men that use them for wrongful acts. Man would find another adequate tool for killing if the gun was never invented. I'd much rather be shot than stabbed anyway.

Stereotype much? My hair is short because I work in a professional environment. I also like it because it's easy to dry and quick to ready in the morning. If anything, my love of guns can probably be correlated to the area in which I was raised.

I have no clever comeback to this.

I don't understand this "gun control can't work anyway" nonsense. It's a clear statistical fact that free access to guns correlates with high murder rate. There's no civil freedoms, morality or political lobbying to consider here: if people in my country/neighbourhood have free access to guns, I am more likely to be shot. The only rational thing is to not want that. Ergo, civilian access to guns should be restricted. It doesn't get much simpler than that.

I don't understand the view that you should be allowed to shoot someone breaking into your house. That's ridicilous overreaction, more likely to get you killed (why would a burglar shoot the inhabitants if they didn't have guns and he knew it, because they were outlawed?), and vigilantism is generally bad anyway. Whoever thinks individuals have the right to protect their property with (lethal) force missed the memo when society was invented. You know, that thing that grants you protection in exchange for giving up your personal freedom to seek retribution.

No we don't need guns, specifically not hand guns. Hand guns are really only good for killing. Some hardcore hunting enthusiasts will go out hunting with high power mags, but for the most part a Glock 17 or Ruger P90 is going to be putting a bullet in a person, not an animal.

So I vote no for pistols, yes for recreational rifles/shotguns with the proper permits.

And of course as many have already noted, it doesn't matter so much if guns are legal or not, criminals will still be able to get them, but by making hand guns much harder to obtain' it will put a damper on things.

I just must live in the nicest place on Earth, because I have heard people say that stricter gun laws just take the weapons out of the good citizens hands to defend themselves, but I've never had a thug bust into my home, my parents have never had anyone come in their household with a gun. None of my in-laws have either and they all live throughout the country.

Sometimes I feel like the boogey man holding a Glock is just a propaganda tool used by dealers and manufactures to sell guns...because no one can deny that guns are BIG business in the US of A, and in the kingdom of fear, it's awful easy to scare people into purchasing things.
