you say the drums suck. what's your argument? he sounds absolutely drunk and is trying to solo his way through the entire album and doesnt give a shit about doing what drums are for. and you get upset if i call you an infant.... geez.

OK, well I felt that was detailed enough but I can break that down into little teeny pieces so it can fit on my airplane spoon:

The drums appear to be sloppy at alot of points, people tend to do things like drive, draw or play drums sloppily while intoxicated. At some points the drums are fast have alot of power and speed skills, but dont seem to fit the music very well, that explains my comment about "soloing his way through the entire album". Drums are generally used as time-keeping in alot of music, in this album they sound out of time alot, and much of the time drown out everything else, much like a guitarist who plays a ridiculously long, boring, unnessisary, yet technically proficient solo. Understand?

Stop the bitching it is in Dr. Rock's full right to NOT like the new Mayhem.
I for one disagree with his typifying the new Mayhem as lacking direction for I find it to be really focussed and love all aspects of it.

But I also happen to know quite a few black metal fans who are really deep into black metal from its inception till now and who fully grasp ALL aspects of bm but who do NOT like the new Mayhem album AT ALL.

Not liking the new Mayhem has nothing to do with not understanding the subgenre of black metal.

And why is it that people of a certain age always go on about someone not understanding bm when someone disses a favourite album of theirs? Have you guys never heard of personal taste in music? Thank god for not everyone agreeing on the same points or else metal will truly become boring (which is starting to happen to a lot of bm btw)

An interview (written) with "Blasphemer", from May '07. It gives some insight on the reasoning for Ordo Ad Chao, and gives little but some personal info on what Blasphemer is like person wise. I was very surprised that he wrote ALL of the music, and disappointed that Hellhammer did not write any of the drum's.

Chimera was good, particularily "Slaughter Of Dreams" with it's very grooving bassline. Although a while back when the album came out there was an interview with Hellhammer (I think it was him) and the interviewer asked why they went back to a more raw sound, and the response was.... to sell more albums.

Each Mayhem album is pretty differant from the other, so I think it just comes down to a matter of personal favourites rather than which one is actually better. Grand Decleration of War is kind of lacking, but I still really like a handful of tracks on it.

Yeah, I don't personally know anyone that cared for the album. Nor did I ever come across much praise online.

well, I was happy because Attila Csihar came back to Mayhem. Ordo Ad Chao was a good album but with bad quality. maybe they did it in purpose, anyways, I have some months to hear this album and I hope to release another one with Attila again soon, I want to hear more with him!

I happened to listen to it twice again today, and the muddy sound is definitely one of the core elements of the album.
