Not so great after hearing Pleasure to kill... still a nice ''thrash precursor to death'' metal

While this one overall, is definitely not up there with their absolute classics, like "Coma Of Souls" and "Pleasure To Kill", it is a decent debut. "Tormentor" and the immortal "Flag Of Hate" are rightly regarded as Kreator classics, and still amongst their best songs today. The vicious title track and the NWOBHM on speed of "Storm Of The Beast" are also faves of mine from this album. xD

Perhaps my favourite kreator album. a bit on the lighter side compared to pleasure to kill, but still a viscious album.

Not bad for a debut album, but the albums released in the 80's after this overshadow 'Endless Pain' a lot. 'Tormentor' and 'Flag of hate' are brilliant though\m/

It has some moments, but overall this album is totally mediocre, forgettable, and far from being one of the best thrash metal albums (also one of the best Kreator albums).

People forget this album is made by teenage metalheads, Mille, the main songwriter, was 18 when this was released.

True but not particularly relevant when discussing the merit of the album.
For me Pleasure to Kill, Terrible Certainty and Extreme Aggression are stone wall classics but Endless Pain is the sound of a young band still trying to find their way. The songwriting and performances are very clumsy.
The most amazing thing for me is how quickly they matured between the recording of this and PtK.

I agree to what you say here, but I for one admire the effort these teenagers made on this debut album.

Well, that's because their follow up album was so much better, a huge step forward in writing and performance.

Kreator's main qualities were always rawness and borderline death metal/fwbm thrashy riffage, not elaborated song writing. It isn't my favorite Kreator album, but it's way better than anything after Terrible Certainty (or maybe even Flag of Hate EP)
I disagree here. I like all classic Kreator albums and by this I mean the albums from debut to Coma of Souls. I also like their comeback to thrash, the 2000s albums were surprisingly good.

Yeah. No way is this better than Extreme Aggression imo.
For me Coma of Souls was a disappointment though, and then they lost me during the 90's. Their latter stuff is OK but I'd never chose to play them over their 80's records.

Coma of Souls never disappointed me, I always like getting back to it, it never got old for me.
But yeah, 90s Kreator is not much to listen to, they struggled throughout the period, like many other peers. Funny, Endorama worked for me, although I understand why some dislike it so much.

To me it always sounded like they were going through the motions.
I'm sure I read an old interview where Mille said he hated making that album, and I can hear it. It probably explains the sudden change in sound on the next record.

I never read or heard of Mille hated making that album, in fact back in the day, they were quite proud of CoS in the few rock & metal magaxine i came across. But starting with the next album, something happened, maybe constantly making music and touring routine got to them, Renewal was a huge flop. I could not believe it was them when I first heard the song. There was a three years gap till they released their next album. Anyone can guess why...

By 1992 a lot of thrash bands' quality declined, I wouldn't say that necessarily something happened to them. It's just the overall shitty direction that thrash metal, as a genre, was heading.
And, yeah, I agree with gavdann that Coma of Souls was rather underwhelming. Its as if, by the time, they were done with their style of more extreme thrash and decided to streamline it to meet the expectations of the general audience. Compared to their previous albums it just feels completely deballed and out of edge.
"Deballed"?! That's harsh. 'Out of edge"?! I'm not even sure what that means,,,
I don't get it why Kreator changed style, the 90s were harsh on thrash bands, musicians followed trends for some reason , they either went the groove metal route or added some hardcore sounds, or softened their sound. Just goes to show how much the mainstream music world sucks.

I'm not the biggest 90's Kreator apologist, but at least they did something unique, rather than just going the no-brainer groove metal route. I'll give them that.
I'm not exactly a "90s Kreator apologist", there is a compilation of the 92-99 period, it's good enough for those years. I get back to it sometimes.
