One of the alluring aspects of Devin Townsend's genius is that none of his albums are the same. Constantly trying something new, each album a contrast to the last, Epicloud is no different.

I saw his tour with katatonia and he put on a great show, DT probably had better showmanship then Katatonia but I didn't stay around for them.

Dev is an incredible performer. I especially love his "OH MY GOD" and "WHAT'S HE GONNA DO" stuff, along with his goofy faces. x3 Both times I've seen him, he's given 110%, in terms of attitude and musicianship. Such an incredibly down-to-earth and honest dude. Katatonia's frontman (who I've also seen twice, but because they were playing with bands I enjoy) does a really good job of quietly singing into the mic while making sure I can't see his face by covering it with his hair... All to some generic riffing and repetitive breaks. I felt like his performance was something I shouldn't be watching. Like he was a high school kid singing Breaking Benjamin songs into a mirror in his room, because his parents grounded him for getting straight D's. Life's tough, but y u so sayad? ANYWAY, don't get me wrong... I like dark and sensitive music as much as the next totally shameful metalhead, but I just don't get it. But hey, to each his own and all that jazz.

Ya he's an energetic fellow and he actually puts on somewhat of a spectacle rather than just going through the motions (katatonia?).. and ya, it really depends on your state of mind for the music your listening too. I wouldn't say listening to one form of music over another makes anyone lesser than anyone else. Different people run on different fuel, and so on and so forth.

This is one of those albums you just have to let up on and enjoy. Cheesy in some areas? Heck yeah! But I don't mind throwing all my caution into the wind and enjoying it.

I enjoyed this album very much, so melodic and poppy yet not simple at all. Even better than Addicted. I hope Anneke will be featured in later albums too, she is fantastic.

For some reason this album always immediately makes me happier every time I listen to it. It could be Giersbergen's voice, the epic atmosphere on near enough every song, the lullaby-like sound of "Grace", it could be anything. Sure there's loads of cheese here, but it's fresh cheese, which isn't going bad anytime soon.

Not bad, some songs were a little slow for my liking. It really made me miss the good ol SYL days but it's still enjoyable.

Also just realised "Hold On" reprises a part from "Slow Me Down" (Accelerated Evolution). Both great songs, awesome that Devin's done that.
