After a long slumber, Ahab have finally risen like Cthullu. One of the most anticipated doom albums of 2023 has been released within its first fortnight; the question now turns to whether The Coral Tombs justifies those lofty expectations.

unfortunately they are completely overshadowed by it's tediousness.

Apart from Bell Witch I don't think I've heard a funeral doom band which I didn't find completely tedious. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I feel the same way about funeral doom, I can handle most traditional doom as to same extent death doom, but funeral doom I've always struggled to get into I

Doom:VS is a great Funeral Doom band to listen to, they strike the right balance between crushing atmosphere and variety to keep their music interesting. I would recommend trying Dead Words Speak and see what you think.

I'm glad you reminded me of Doom:VS, I haven't listened to them for a while now but it's definitely a funeral doom band I can listen too, they create a great atmosphere but also keep things interesting rather than tedious and dull.

What are you complaining about /Ahab/ when you ranked them #1 in funeral doom and they are a complete nuisance in music! There are so many unique bands in this style... Evoken, Esoteric,

I really don't get the negativity about this album. I admit, my first impression was "ok, meh", but after a few spins it has become my second favorite AHAB, finding itself almost daily in my playlists.

I guess it has lots of "not that heavy" moments, but this creates a unique atmosphere for the album, especially the second half of the album is out of this world.
