I think Behemoth 's Inferno is the best : he's fast as hell and his drumming on the last album is awesome.
Seen him live 3 times and could not stop watching him.
I agree, he is great, but all the others are evenly matched with him, I think all the drummers in the list and several more, are simply great, this is why this question is hard...

Fenriz for me. The drums throughout dark thrones and black flags are fucking killer, not to mention his side projects and shit.
That and I don't really care for any other drummer up there, except maybe hellhammer.

Sooo many good bm drummers, you couldnt decide.
Although, a complete and utter stand out is the drummer for Wolves In The Throne Room.
Especially off 'Two Hunters'
Absoloutely mind blowing and amazing. Check him/them out!!

Hellhammer is one of the major references of BM, but that's not the main reason to my vote. The real big reason my vote goes to him is Arcturus

I voted Hellhammer because to me he has the best fills in black metal and he is incredibly solid. Whether he is playing fast or slow, blast or D, he is always dead on. It was a tough decision though, because I am a huge fan of Frost as well, particularly his work with 1349.

I voted for other, since there wasn't an option to vote for Absu's Proscriptor. All these drummers listed here are great, but Proscriptor is just one step ahead of them.

It was a choice between Hellhammer and Inferno, both have great skill IMO, but it all came down to the fact that Hellhammers drumming style does irritate me from time to time, it comes across as weak and "clicky" in a way. Inferno just has a much more solid sound.

Well for me it is hard to tell, because imo you have to see drummer live to see his true qualities...and i havent seen any of them live yet...but i was with the crowd and voted for Hellhammer

FENRIZ!!!
After a long though process, Hellhammer is a close 2nd. While Hellhammer might technically be a faster drummer, Fenriz style is perfect.

Seconded. Love his style.
He's not just ferociously fast, he also manages to keep things interesting.

Hellhammer is by far the best drummer I have ever heard. Not just in BM circle but in general. His work with Arcturus, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, just to name a few of his projects has been amazing.
Frost is another drummer I really enjoy, his work with 1349 shows him to be one of the greats also, however with Satyricon he almost always has a backseat.

Well, yes he is a big guy and a great drummer, but I thought this guy used some kind of things to increase the speed of the drums I don't know the name of this machine or whatever it is

I always thought he had two double pedals, giving the possibility of four rapid kicks?

I gotta go with Fenriz. I know Hellhammer or Inferno are far superior technically, but I just love the simple, low mixed approach of Fenriz in albums like Transilvanian Hunger or Panzerfaust. I just love the way it sounds.

Voted for Frost. I think the diversity he shows from band to band and album to album is so varied and technically competent that he can't be matched. Have to hail Hellhammer and Fenriz as well though. Hellhammer has been fantastic for ages now.

It was a close call between Hellhammer and Frost for me. Hellhammer has perfect technicality but Frost's consistent speed cannot be matched. I personally prefer Hellhammer's work though so he gets my vote.

I know I'm posting this a couple years too late but in case you haven't already learned about the device(s) you are referring to they are called triggers and they dont technically make a drummer faster. The device is installed on the bass pedals and is essentially a set of mics that increase the volume and/or change the sound of the kick drum. Some drummers use these so that they can move their feet faster without having to worry about losing power cuz the triggers will make them sound powerful so they can essentially sacrifice power for speed. Other drummers use triggers to change the sound of the kick drum like industrial drummers use them to make the bass sound more mechanical rather than organic. Alot of deathcore drummers use triggers to create that big bass "drop" effect for their breakdowns. Others use triggers to beef up the sound of their bass during live shows in enormous concert halls and outdoor theaters so that the bass can actually be heard over everything else. And others, like high speed death and black metal drummers, use triggers to define their kicks, i.e. when they play at speeds exceeding 250 bpm, for example, the bass kicks are just a flurry and pretty much just blur together and sound like a low hum so they trigger the bass drums so that the individual notes are defined and can actually be heard and understood by the listener(s).

Of all drummers mentioned in the poll I don't know Larha. Fenriz isn't anything special, I think he even said so himself
All the rest are drumming monsters, but I didn't hesitate for a minute. Hellhammer is the best in my opinion. Others are as fast, but it's Mr Von Blomberg who impresses me the most. The pinnacle of his technical prowess are: Mayhem's "Grand Declaration of War" and Covenant's "Nexus Polaris". Especially on the latter he demonstrates incredibly impressive skills. Just listen to "Planetary Black Elements" to see what I mean.
