The first death metal band I ever heard was Morbid Angel and it's no shock that they're my favourite. I mean nothing I've heard even compares to them IMO.

for me its an obvious no brainer,Death.The word death appears in there fucking name.However they were always more than just a death metal band,so thats what ranks them above the rest for me.RIP Chuck

i agree.i voted death as well, they are so complex and are much more than just death metal. but i also like a lot nile, obituary, dying fetus,aytopsy, ma and others

I voted for Death. They are legendary in so many ways.

Bloodbath is a very very close second. I just love their albums!

I also like Deicide. Their latest album is very good!

the most amazing drumwork i have ever heard combined with guitarwork that is among my top favourites aswell, awesome bass-playing and very good vocals, beautiful instrumentals and ambient parts that take you to other worlds and beyond them, they have two albums out, a technical deathmetal one and an experimental deathmetal one, the first being the best technical cd i have ever heard and the second being the best experimental album i have ever heard, actually they are my two favourites albums ever anyway,
to compare them with, say, Morbid Angel, after 4 years of drumming experience Leon Macey drums not only faster, but on a technically just as high level (if not higher) then Pete Sandoval

death metal isnt the genré i know most about, but it is one of my favorites
i actually voted for good old Cannibal Corpse.
today they arent the most inventive death metal band around, but they get the job done indeed.

Slowly We Rot and Cause Of Death are FAR superior to World Demise IMO and also the only two by Obituary I truly love. Tjos two are classics within the Death Metal realm.

oh well - the disadvantages of having no one else around here who likes them

No votes for Autopsy? They released some of death metal's (Severed Survival & Mental Funeral) best and Chris Reifert has really cool vocals.

Of course, Death the band were like a FUCKING-A they've got no bad song, are legendary, and they almost invented the genre, they r the best Death Metal band ever for all they've done, despicting being one of the pioneers. Hails to Chuck.

A few years ago I would have chosen Nile without a doubt but now I would have to choose between Cynic, Gorguts and maybe Atheist. Actually Gorguts has created only one album that I worship, "Obscura", but this work is so mindblowing that I consider this to be one of the best albums ever. But Cynic has only released one album, so they are basically in the same situation with Gorguts. And although Atheist has created more really great albums I dig them less than Cynic or Gorguts, so it´s impossible to choose between those three bands. But in this thread my answer is "Other".

I would have to say Death... They are brilliant. Although i think its more the prog side to Deaths music that captures me... And also they kinda sound more like an extra heavy thrash band.

The best death metal band IMO is Carcass... they're fucking great! But from the list I gotta say: Cannibal Corpse kick asses! I love their brutality and ruthlessness in the lyrics!

Morbid Angel by far! they made Death Metal what it is today, plus they have the best drummer!

FAvorite others are bloodbath, dismember, behemoth....but in general from the list I like Nile - in their darkened shrine, catacombs of nephrum ka morbid angel - blessed are the sick, covenant. And Death - symbolic, individual thought patterns, human, and the sound of persevarance.
