So, what is your favorite instrumental song? For those of you who don't know, and instrumental is a track without lyrics or vocal music.

My favorite has to be from a band I very recently discovered, called Shade Empire. Their track Ravine is one excellent instrumental. Cool piano intro especially.

For sure In Flames does have some amazing instrumental and one no one's mentioned that I think is there best but I kind of forgot about it until I saw this thread is Wayfaerer that song is so good it's got such a catchy riff but I think every intrumemntal by In Flames kicks ass. Some other great instrumentals are:
Iron Maiden - Transylvania
Iron Maiden - Los'fer Words
Porcupine Tree - Voyage 34
Rush - YYZ
Quo Vadis - Day the Universe Changed
Dream Theater - Ytse Jam
Ayreon - Chaos
Blind Guardian - Beyond the Ice

That's all that I can thnk of right now but those are all pretyy great songs.

Well, I'm listening to Rata Blanca right now... And you are right, that song slams. However love does not feel that way. Not in my case, I'm very happy!

I'd Say Dream Theater's Dance of the Eternal, it's sixteen minuits of soul touching instrumentaion, a perfect example of how Metal Gods should play their instruments.
My top six is probably

1. Dream Theater: Dance of the Eternal-see above
2. MegaDeth: Into the lungs of Hell- A trip of high energy thrashy goodness
3. Shadows Fall: Prelude to Disaster- Acoustic instrumental with a touch of electricity
4. Shadows Fall: Casting Shade-Stright Acoustic instrumental, reminds me of the wilderness.
5. Shadows Fall: Lead Me home- See prelude to disaster
6. Metalica:Call of Ktulu: Suspension building geneus of Metalica

Warmen - War of Worlds

Warmen has many worthy instrumentals but War of Worlds is such a special track. It pulls you in just as if there were lyrics. It's so engaging and I often find myself singing along and then humming it later. War of Worlds is a perfect show of skill by Janne Warman and a textbook example of how to write an instrumental masterpiece. My only complaint is that it's too short! It's just over 3 minutes

My two all time favourite instrumentals would have to be:

1. Death - Voice Of The Soul (The Sound Of Preserverance)
This song would actually have to be my favourite, not just my favourite instrumental, but my favourite song all together. It just has so much... well, 'soul'.

2. Carcariass - Hopeless (Hell On Earth)
This band copes so well with combining technicality and melody, I especially love the lead guitar work at about 1:30 (I think) into the song. It's a shame it's so short though, lasting for less than 2 minutes.

Theres many other instrumentals which appeal to me, but, these two are my top favourites.

Oh, The Dance Of Eternity. The song pretty much is an eternal dance. It keeps going, and going, and as a listener, I am so sucked into it. Plus it has the sickest parts I have ever heard.
