This is a thread to see what people's all time favorite albums are they can be from any genre even if they're not metal that's fine. Please only pick no more then 10 albums and explain why they are your favorite.
My 10 Favorite albums in no particular order are:
Dream Theater: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - When I heard this album I was in grade 7 and at the time my version of metal consisted of only bands like System of a Down, In Flames, and Shadows Fall. When I turned this album on my entire world changed it opened me up into the genre of Progressive Metal. This album contains 2 discs and both are amazing. My favorite songs on it are The Glass Prison, Dissapear, and Disc 2.

Ayreon: The Human Equation - This two disc album contains so many of my favorite singers such as Devin Townsend and Mikael Akerfeldt. It's a great progressive metal concept album. Lyrically this is probably my favorite album of all time because it tells such a great story.

The Mars Volta: De-Loused In the Comatorium - This Prog Rock album is off the wall and contains great jam and ambience sections. This album is also extremely sporadic and wierd and that's what I like about it.

Tool: Ænima - This is one of the best albums I have ever heard every song on the album is amazing and I can't think of anything on it I'd like to change it gives off such a cool vibe.

Blind Guardian: Imaginations From The Otherside - Most people say that Nightfall In Middle-Earth is the best Blind Guardian album but for me this album is my favorite Power Metal record ever. It has everything I want to hear in an album great leads and big chours. This album contains so many great songs like Bright Eyes, Script For My Requim, Mordred's Song, and Born In a Morning Hall.

In Flames: Colony - This album contains some great melodies and is the last great album from Melodeath band In Flames. The acoustic passages on this album are what make me like this album so much. They can take acoustic interludes and make them so good that they don't seem like filler.

Iron Maiden: Powerslave - This is my favorite classic metal album it contains nothing but memorable songs and riffs. This album also includes my favorite Iron Maiden epic The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Megadeth: Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? - This is my all time favorite thrash album and one of the most aggressive albums I have ever heard. On this album you can really feel how pissed off Dave Mustaine is and every song on the album is amazing.

Opeth: Damnation/Deliverance - This album contains one half of really great mellow songs that I can't get enough of and the second half of the album is heavy as fuck. This album contains both extremes of music which is why I like it so much.

Symphony X: The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Another great progressive album that contains some great keyboards and neoclassical shredding by Michael Romeo.

Epica - Consign to Oblivion (This is an amazing album which i absolutely adore. Its a testament to the vocals of Simone Simons, and musical genius of the band members.)

Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory (This is my favorite Dream Theater album, simply because of the musical genius, and amazing atmosphere it produces. I just loose myself listening to this album.)

Iced Earth - The Dark Saga (This is the album Iced Earth matuered in terms of songwriting. I love this album.)

Iced Earth - Something Wicked This Way Comes (I love this album so much, each song has its own unique identity, capped off by the Something Wicked Trilogy.)

Nightwish - Oceanborn (This album will always hold a firm place in my heart as one of my all time favorites. From start to finnish Tarja is in great form. As well as the musical perfection, and complexity accomplished by the band as a whole)

Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness (This is the pinnicle of my BM collection, I love this album)

Tristania - World of Glass (this is why i love tristania so much. I think Veland's leaving of tristania is the best thing they could have done, because it showed the musical genius of the other members no longer dictated by Veland)

Opeth - Mornignrise (Musical perfection in its purest form)

Opeth - Your Arms, My Hearse (This is the follow up to Morningrise, and musically once again it is absolutely perfect)

1349 - Hellfire (This is a ruthless testament to frost's drumming ability)

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Classic! I mean, do I really have to say anything?

Slayer - (tie) Reign in Blood & Seasons in the Abyss
The reasions why slayer ruled the 80's and early 90's

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
The title pretty much said it all

The 3rd and the Mortal - Tears Laid in Earth
If you don't fall in love with Kari and the rest of thae band after "Why So Lonley," then there's something wrong with you.

Opeth - Deliverance
Really, there's no one like them. Every thing they've done is magic. How can I choose? Deliverance, though, might be my favourite. That album had their most memorable riffs in my opinion.

Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium
Exactly how many bands owe their existance to this album and band?

Death - Symbolic
Including Control Denied. Any thing Chuck did was desined to be immortal. This had his most memorable riffs.

Machine Head - Burn my Eyes
Every note on this album is perfect.

Into Eternity - Buried in Oblivion
THis entire album has the songs that get stuck in your head for the rest of your life

Dissection - The Stormof Light's Bane
My all time favourite evil record. Jon was one of the greats. (RIP)

Ah man, that's to Hard, no way in a million years I could name My top ten, there are just to many Albums out there, I'll try Anyway, this will be the closest I can get I guess.

1.Red Hot Chili Peppers- Blood sugar sex Magick This is the album that pulled me into music heavily in general. It was the peak of the peppers carreer, and is probably their most creative work to date. While it contains influences from their early days such as some of the heavy Funk/Punk influences, It also contains signs of the change of their sound. Amongst the More Funky/Punky area, we Have songs such as "Sir Psycho Sexy," "If you have to ask," and "Apache rose Peakock." Amongst the More mellow styling are songs Like "Could have lied," "Under the Bridge," and "Breaking the Girl." Truly a great album, though not exactly common in the taste of most metal Heads.

2.MegaDeth- Rust In Peace This is the first thrash album I ever listened to and has had a massive impact on my guitar playing and playing style. I love it's Imaginitive and Politically Fueled Lyrics, it's such a vicious and Brilliant piece of art. My favorite songs from the Album are "Holy wars.....The Punishment Due" and "Hanger 18." In my oppinio this album is MegaDeth's best.

3.Shadows Fall- The Art of Balance Once more the peaking Point in this bands career, the art of balance contains a perfect equilibrium of Brutality and Melody, and has Spiritually as well as Politically themed Lyrics. A song I can especially relate to Spiritually is "The Mystery of One Spirit," Which talks of the Ancestral wisdom and the Spirit world that I try so hard to attain/tap into. Some good political songs are "The Art of Balance" and "The Idiot Box." a song that teaches a wise lesson and is also my favorite, is "Thoughts without words."

4.Iron Maiden- Peace of Mind I need Not Explain the greatness of Maiden, Blasphemy If I do.
What's that Mr. Moderator? You don't want me Spam posting? Well danm, it looks like I have to explain, though we all already know about it. I feel that the Lyrics to the Songs "Still life" and "Revalations" and "The Flight of Iccarus" and "Sun and Steel" and......Wait, all the Lyrics are Brilliant, But Still lifes lyrics are brilliant because of how well it portrays the temptations and the experience of what one must go through with a cursed and haunted pool. Revelations Clearly shows the negative reprucussions of political couruption and Drawn out warfare. The Flight of Iccarus Geneously Portrays The Story of Iccarus in true power metal Form. Sun and steel is a great Explanation to how a warrior may live and die. Also, Die with your boots on says it all in itself. The Trooper Is a classic riff and shows the honor in Dying in battle. And it just has overall enough geneious and skill put into the riffs to summon all the demons from hell.

5.Into Eternity- Buried in Oblivion A Progressive/Death power classic. It begins with an insane Guitar intro for the opening track "Splintered Visions." The Album is full of progressive switches, death/power vocals, and depressive yet detailed and finely worked lyrics. Every instrument, Drumming, guitar, bass, and vocals are all on par with each other on this album, and considering the insanity of the Guitar alone, that says alot.

6.Dr. Dre- The Chronic 2001 The Album that reminds us all that the Dr. is still in the house, and not to be Fucked with. Dr. Dre Get's together with the origional members of NWA (Excluding Eazy-E, who unfortunatly died.) as well as other great rappers like Hitman, Xzibit, Eminem,Snoop Dogg, Daz, and Kurupt to create this piece of Hardcore west coast Gangsta music. This is a piece of Urban art. The Production on this album and the background beats are just amazing (Dre produced it, Duh) and the Rhymes on it are so killer it'll open up hell and smack satan in the face, and then give him a big bag of chronic and tell him it's the Doctors perscription. Great songs from this album are "Some L.A. Niggaz," "What's the Difference?," "Forgot About Dre," "Still D.R.E," "The Watcher," and "Bitch Niggaz." Great songs, though I'm sure most of Metal Storm would not enjoy this album really, except for maby My fellow rap fans

7.The Game- The Documentery "Oh Arian! Not another west Coast Gangsta Rap album!" Well I'm sorry but I love the Stuff. This Kid revived the west coast, and not only that, but he is probably the most talented and Lyrically creative rapper in the Industry. His Lyrics are about Gang bangin', but he also talks about problems in Urban neighborhoods, every day problems in life, and shows a greater respect for rappers of the past than any other rapper I've known. He can be closely compared with Tupac, But I Think Game may actually be better Lyrically and flow wise, but it's very hard to tell. He raps both in the underground and the mainsteam, he is just all around respectable. Great songs on his album "The Documentery" are "We Ain't," "Church for Thugs," "The Documentery," "Westside Story," and "Like father Like son." I would strongly recomend this to my fellow rap fans here on MS

8.Death- The Sound of Perserverance Wow.......what a mixture of progressive and technical death Metal. The time changes are not only noticable, but melodic and enjoyable. But don't think this album is completely soft, it can get pretty Brutal to, and the lyrics, wow they're good. "Behold, the flesh, and the power it holds!" "Big words, small Mind, behind the pain you'll find a scavenger, of human Sorrow." Oh yeah, that's what I call good. And who needs Lyrics when you have a classic instrumental like "Voice of the soul" anyway? I mean, 3 part guitar harmony brilliance is in itself enough to mezmerize me.

9.MegaDeth- So Far, So Good, So What! A very creative and underated album in MegaDeth's career, this was made in their experimental era. It's lyrics are mainly political and Science fiction themed, not to mention that the way it was produced is kinda ruff, in a good way, if that makes sense. I have an origional copy of this album on tape. Yet another great Instrumental "Into the lungs of Hell" really does paint images of a tunnel of fire in my head, and as my minds eye travels down it, I can see MegaDeth Playing within it, almost like a Music Video. Then we have a little song called "In my darkest hour" Dedicated to his fallen friend, Cliff Burton. "Liar" Is a great shot at....well....at people who lie, mainly crooked cops. And Finally, "Set the world afire" is a Science fiction Classic. Some Lyrics from this song are as follows: Distorted figures walk the street, it's 1999." Seeing as how this album was made in 1987, these lyrics show a clear depiction of apocalyptic theories of Y2K, which I find quite ammusing.

10.Metallica- Ride the Lightning I love this album Alot. It is just a straight thrash Classic. It kicks off with a Song that starts so very lightly, and kicks in hard, you know the one, "Fight fire with fire." Not to mention the battle oriented song "For whome the bell tolls." Then we have one of the most depressing ballands in Metal History, "Fade to Black." We have the song about the last Biblical Plague, "Creeping death." Even though I'm a pagan I still love this song because the Lyrics in it are great. "The time has come to kill the Phaeros first born son, Creeping death." And how can we forget that timeless instrumental, "The call of Ktulu." It comes alive in my mind as a dead winter snowstorm, and gradually works into a cry of desperation by a fallen African fire god named Ktulu, is that strange or what? What an imagination I have!

But anyway, I can't honestly say that this is truly my top ten favorite, because there are just to many to think about, let's just call it "Ten albums I am very fond of."

Iron Maiden- Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
The most underappreciated Iron Maiden album, and one of the most underappreciated metal albums in history IMO. Each song has such an amazing and almost epic feel to it that no other Maiden album has and that I have never heard matched. I'm a fan of very little melodic metal but this album does it for me. Not to mention the awesome story and how well it's told throughout all the songs.

I have to agree. It is very underappreciated. When I hear people talk about Iron Maiden's great works, I hear "Number of the Beast" and "Powerslave" but never SSOASS. Good choice.

STrange that you two seem to think that Seventh Son is underappreciated... maybe in the US but here in Europe, or at least in the Netherlands, it has always been considered a classic on par with Powerslave and Piece of Mind and beating the shit out of Somewhere in Time (and rightly so cause that album is quite crappy)

Well, it's not a very popular album over here. The only truly popular album is The Number of the Beast.

Dude, I fail to see how that is a bad album. So they use a little bit of Synth in their music, it doesn't mean that they didn't play good music. Have you ever even heard the song Alexander the Great? That song was brilliantly written, it's a maiden Classic!

I was really tempted to add that album in as well, mostly for the track 'hook in mouth' (a song about one of metals worst enemies-Tipper Gore)

I don't mind synths in music at all. I enjoy Seventh Son a lot more than Somewhere in Time. Of course I have herad Alexander the Great I have SiT original on vinyl, but to me the entire album is just bland and is a snoozefest extraordinaire. On SiT they already tried to be too progressive for their own good and the songs are too long and therefore lacking punch.

1. AGENT STEEL - Unstoppable Force: This is my favourite album ever. First of all because John Cyriis is the best metal singer ever and seceond because the music is varied, powerful, thrashy, melancholic,... perfect!!! John Cyriss, where are you???? We need you back in the metal scène....

2. DEADLY BLESSING - Ascend from the Cauldron. Yes, this is Christian metal as good as metal can be. Mix the eighties speed/thrash metal with the typical US style of power metal and add the amazing high pitched vocals from SKi. Each song is awesome, on stage these guys kick's serious ass...

3. MERCYFUL FATE - Don't break the oath. If Satan wrote a metal album it was for sure this one. This album is so dark, so evil that it even makes me afraid after all these years. Along with "Melissa" the best King Diamond ever did.

4. IRON MAIDEN - Killers - Bruce Dickinson is a good singer but Iron Maiden did never make such dark albums as the first two albums. It's a hard choice between the first and second album but I choose "Killers". I like the dark atmospchere on this album, so eighties....

5. SATAN - Court in the act. This is for sure the best NWOBHM album ever written. Brian Ross did an amazing job and this album was very influential for the US metal scène. Even nowadays Brian's voice is still kickin ass with BLITZKRIEG

6.HELSTAR - Remnants of war. It's always difficult to choose my favourite Helstar album because all are great. I did choose "Remnants of war" because I consider it as one of the first US power metal albums and for sure it sounds perfect. Everybody should pick up this album...

7. VIO-LENCE : Eternal nightmare. I always was a big fan of the Bay Area thrash metal scène, I still am a fan of bands like Forbidden and Vio-lence. Sean Killian's vocals were very unique but I love them. This album only contains awesome songs...

8.EIDOLON - Nightmare world: This is just my kind of metal! Progressive, US power, great guitars, good vocals....

9.NEVERMORE - Dead heart in a dead world. Although "Deconstruction" is my favourite Nevermore song, although I was a bigger fan of Warrel Dane's vocals in SANCTUARY, I really love this album because it contains everything a metalfan wants in his music.

10.ICED EARTH - Burnt offerings. I'm a big fan since the very beginning although I'm convinced they changed their style too much. Nowadays Iced Earth is a very good heavy metal band, the first albums were typical US POWER METAL, just the way I like it. This album contains "Dante's Inferno", for sure one of the best metal songs ever written.

There's more, much more but I'm not allowed to choose more then 10 albums...

1. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son : I may be alone when I claim this to be my favorite album from Maiden, but this happens to be the first ever Maiden CD I owned, from way back in the day. This disc was the reason I became a fan.

2. Black Sabbath - We Sold Our Souls For Rock & Roll : This is the only thing I have in common in music with my dad. When I was little he used to put it on and we'd both sing along to every word.

3. In Flames - Reroute to Remain : A personal favorite. Always will be! I just loved the Cd front to back, song by song. Plus I found all of the artwork to be gorgeous.

4. Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion : I never get tired of listening to this one. It's catchy as hell, hear it once, and it's stuck in your head for days.

5. Iced Earth - Something Wicked This Way Comes : Most of my favorite Iced Earth tracks are on this one album, hence the album is one of my favorites.

6. Slayer - Reign In Blood : C'mon, this is a classic! Every song rocked!

7. Metallica - And Justice For All : Old School! I have always love this almub, more then any other Metallica release.

8. Descend Into Nothingness - Darkened Reality : One of my all time favorite bands from QC. This happens to be a band my boyfriend and I find amazing, and when I listen to it I think of him. So I like it all the more.

9. Lamb Of God - As The Palaces Burn : Good Old Southern Boys! I love Eevery song on this CD, and they are also one of my favorite live acts. Nice guys too! Very down to earth.

10. Kataklysm - Road To Devestation : Hmmmm. choosing the last of the list was hard, since it left no room for any more decisions. But I feel this CD desrves to be in my top 10, it was by far Kataklysm's best release.

Totally agree dude. Mercyful Fate made some scary shit back in the day. The song, The Oath, is more satanic than anything that present day black metal bands, such as Immortal or Darkthrone, have ever made.

Killers is also my favorite Iron Maiden album. Many people disregard it because Bruce Dickinson isn't on it, but Killers has some of their best songs and instrumentals.

1. Metallica - S&M
This is my favorite album ever. Listening to symphonic versions of Metallica's songs is a great combination, because Metallica is my favorite band but I love symphonic metal. Favorite songs: One, Master of Puppets, Fuel, Battery.

2. Symphony X - V (the new mythology suite)
My favorite studio album. Simply perfect, Symphony X did a great job and sounded better than ever. Favorite songs: Communion and the oracle, Evolution, Fallen, A Fool's Paradise.

3. Nightwish - From wishes to eternity
What a great concert!! Nightwish live kicks ass, but I would have loved to be there in Finland to see this concert. Favorite songs: Dead Boy's Poem, The Kinslayer, Wishmaster, Sacrament of Wilderness.

4. Iced Earth - Alive in Athens
Another great live album. A triple one with all Iced Earth's escence. Favorite songs: I died for you, Angels Holocaust, Watching over me, Blessed are you.

5. Lost Horizon - Awakening the world
Since the very first time I heard this album I fell in love with the band. A very powerful album, good vocals, instrumentation and lyrics. Favorite songs: Heart of Storm, Welcome Back, The kingdom of my will, Perfect Warrior.

6. After Forever - Prison of Desire
I love the evolution of the band, but their first album was a masterpiece. The whole atmosphere, and those lyrics are wonderful. Favorite songs: Beyond me, Leaden Legacy, Semblance of confusion, Silence from afar.

7. Apocalyptica - Cult
First Apocalyptica's album with lots of songs originally from them, and it sounds excellent. The special edition is even better with the guest vocalists Sandra Nasic and Matthias Sayer. Favorite songs: Pray!, Hope, Romance, Path.

8. Therion - Vovin
It's hard to take only one Therion album but I think this is the best. The orchestral sound and the lyrics are magnificent. Favorite songs: The rise of Sodom and Gomorrah, Black Sun, Draconian (the 3 parts).

9. Korn - Issues
I don't care how many people bash Korn and don't consider them metal. This is my Korn's favorite, but it would have been better if it, keeping its own atmosphere, had been as heavy as the first album. Favorite songs: Make me band, Falling away from me, Trash, Let's get this party started.

10. Ayreon - The Human Equation
Excellent instrumentation, excellent story/lyrics, and excellent guests. Nothing left to say. Favorite songs: Loser, Love, Isolation.

Dark Phoenix
Some not metal, as it is allowed

1) METALLICA - RIDE THE LIGHTNING

A tr00 old-school Metallica work, it was and will remain my favourite work of them. Fade To Black is definately my favourite song of all times, and this album holds amazing Metallica songs such as For Whom The Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Trapped Under Ice and Fight Fire With Fire. Respect.

2) TRISTANIA - BEYOND THE VEIL

This will always be a masterpiece that will remain in my soul as Tristania at their best. With recent releases I lost quite a great amount respect for them, but BTV is a true work of art in the gothic metal scene, with a perfect intro-song, amazing ending and not one single song I wouldn't find abolsutely great. Aphelion and Angina among the best, along with the magnificant Opus Relinque.

3) THEATRE OF TRAGEDY - VELVET DARKNESS THEY FEAR

As I used to be a great fan of gothic metal, this album stays among my most respected. It holds amaziong songs such as my personal favourite, On Whom The Moon Shine and the atmosphere is heart-breaking, as well are the melodies and vocal lines.

4) DIMMU BORGIR - ENTHRONE DARKNESS TRIUMPHANT

The first album by this band I hear and the best. Personally, I am a greater fan of their sympho-melo-black phrase than the earlier black and this album holds everything I could want from a melodic black band. Succubus In A Rapture #1.

5) RAMMSTEIN - MUTTER

As I am not the biggest fan of industrial genre, this band just engulfed me. Mutter is by far their best release, it has great guitars and drumms involved into the typical industrial keyboards.

6) THE GATHERING - NIGHTTIME BIRDS

I count them fairly into rock, but this band is among my faves and it will remain. Nighttime Birds is their release that just captured me, with some nice ballads (Shrink), explosive rock tunes (On Most Surfaces (Inuit)) and something inbetween (Nighttime Birds). Not to mention I am the hugest fan of the charismatic Anneke Van Giersbergen.

7) KORN - ISSUES

Raw, ambiental, I guess it's just hard to swallow for some people. The first album I got by Korn and my favourite with songs such as Beg For Me, Somebody Someone, Trash and Falling Away From Me. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Korn can give you much more than a cover of Word Up!, or the MTV-ish Y'all Wanna Single, believe it or not

8) THERION - VOVIN

Raven of Dispersion. The song that hit me in the moment and the album that crawled under my skin with The Rise Of Sodom and Gomorrah, Clavicula Nox and the Draconian Trilogy. And the band that crawled under my skin with this very album, with the variety of their work over the years, amazing guitars and orchestral works.

9) MUSE - BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS

This is a fairly new album, but nonetheless, since I first heard it I found only one song that I really dislike: Solider Poem. The rest of the album is a rock masterpiece, with amazing vocal lines, great variety and back-upped with soft electronic sounds. Go Muse!

10) METALLICA - MASTER OF PUPPETS

Oh come on, it's a classic. Orion anyone?

This will be hard, my opinion changes from time to time but here comes 10 of the albums that I find greatest today.

1. Tiamat - Wildhoney: Flawless. This album has no song that I not count as briliant. Too bad that the rest of their albums are crap.
2. Opeth - Blackwater Park: Also an extremly great album with much atmosphere and wery good musicanship.
3. Dissection - Storm of the light's bane: The perfect mix between melodeath and black.
4. Opeth - Still Life: Almost as good as BP.
5. In Flames - Subterranean: Just an EP but with amazing melodies and a sad "folkish" touch somehow.
6. Kvist - For kunsten maa vi evig vike: This kvlt black band released only one full-length, but what an album! All of you who had not heard it, get it!
7. Opeth - Morningrise: All songs over 10 minutes and one 20-minute epic. More black than the later Opeth albums.
8. Ulver - Bergtatt: A fairytale in 5 capitles about woods, trolls and northern darkness. Great melodies and atmosphere!
9. Satyricon - Dark medieval times: Epic, atmospheric, dark album. Interesting combination between black and medieval music.
10. Dark Tranquillity - The gallery: hard to decide the last album, but because I have allready mentioned an In Flames release; The Gallery gets the place.

my favorites are

Hard... very hard to choose, but I think this is the list:

1. Eternal Tears of Sorrow - A Virgin and a Whore : this is the album that got me into metal.

2. Moonsorrow - Verisakeet : the best album Heathen Metal has to offer.

3. Diabolical Masquerade - The Phantom Lodge : excellent eerie Black Metal.

4. Novembre - Dreams d'Azur : the best album to come from Italy. Better than any Opeth album.

5. Anthemon - Kadavreski : the best album to come from France. An excellent piece of Progressive Metal.

6. Finntroll - Midnattens Widunder : Finntroll's debut album is also their best. It's very original and you can see that they really enjoyed making this album. Excellent.

7. Morgul - Parody of the Mass : probably the best Black Metal album. "Diversity" and "violence" are the words that best describe this album. The vocals are excellent.

8. Diabolical Masquerade - Death's Design : very diverse, an excellent Progressive Metal album.

9. Katatonia - Brave Murder Day: my favorite Doom Metal album.

10. Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant - my first Black Metal album is also the best Symphonic Black Metal album.

1. Slayer- Reign in Blood
I've listened to this album more than probably all of my 600+ cd's combined. It just never gets old. People always say that Raining Blood and Angel of Death are the only good songs, while the rest are filler. I think that this album is amazing from beginning to end.

2. Pantera- Cowboys From Hell
This is their fastest and catchiest album, and also has Phil's best vocal performance that he's ever done. His high screams in Shattered blow me awawy every time. oh, and Domination is a huge kick in the nuts.

3. Judas Priest- Screaming For Vengeance
Every song on this album is equally amazing (unless there is a slow song I'm forgetting about). I can't even pick out a song because they all are extremely catchy and fresh.

4. Alice in Chains- Facelift
Layne Staley is my all time favorite vocalist and he is the highlight of this album. His voice alone makes their songs. The opening song, We Die Young, is my favorite by them. Now, there are one or two tracks on this album that I could live without, but that doesn't stop it from being one of my favorites.

5. Megadeth- Rust in Peace
I love the instrumentals, lyrics, and song progressions that are constant on this album. Holy Wars and Hangar 18 are probably my favorite songs because of the instrumentals. Dave Mustaine is one of the best rhythm guitarists of all time, and this album proves it.

6. Suffocation- Pierced From Within
For some reason it took me a while to get into this release, but it eventually became one of my favorite Death Metal albums. Terrance and Mike combined to make some of the finest tech death ever created, while Frank belts out brutal, yet articulate, vocals. I especially love the combination of machine-gun riffs and heavy bass guitar on Suspended in Tribulation. Apparantely, this album is ripe with music theory, but I'm not a musician, so...

7. Dying Fetus- Destroy the Opposition
This is another Death Metal album that I consider to be extremely technical. There are so many time changes that you can never lose interest. This album is consistant from the opening guitar riff to the closing breakdown. Kevin Talley is just a fucking monster on drums, and John plays some very technical guitar riffs and solos.

8. Pig Destroyer- Prowler in the Yard
I still remember the day when I first heard this album. I bought it completely out of random, and when I first listened to it I couldn't believe that it took me so long to do so.

9. Mercyful Fate- Melissa
Listening to Mercyful Fate always puts a smile on my face. I love his vocals and the riffs are catchy as fuck. The lyrics are always great as well.

10. King Diamond- Abigail
What's better than an album about a Satanic cannibal fetus? Not much.

aarrggh I couldn't fit Anthrax or Motorhead in

I agree. This album seems to be twice as technical as most technical DM albums I've heard. Do they consider themselves Technical Death?

1. Faith No More - The Real Thing
For me, this album is, was, and always will be the best album ever recorded. Ever. In any genre.
Highlights: Epic, From out of Nowhere, Edge of the World

2. Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
The most metal thing ever recorded, and the beginning of my glam worship. Wicked from start to finish.
Highlights: Shout at the Devil, Red Hot, Ten Seconds to Love

3. Ugly Kid Joe - America's Least Wanted
In my vote, the most underrated album and band of all time. Why these guys got passed off as a one hit wonder is beyond me.
Highlights: Everything About You, Neighbor, Goddamn Devil

4. Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Best thrash album ever recorded, only slightly better than Reign in Blood. Forget Metallica, Mustaine was always the best.
Highlights: Holy Wars, Tornado of Souls, Hangar 18

5. W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P.
My uncle bought me this album about 4 years ago and demanded I spin it, henceforth Blackie and Co. became one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.
Highlights: I Wanna Be Somebody, Hellion, Sleeping (in the fire)

6. Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
What to say about this record that hasnt already been said. Too good for words.
Highlights: The whole damn album. Solid.

7. Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love
The first glam metal album ever recorded, and the framework for in my opinion, the greatest genre of rock music ever.
Highlights: Live Wire, Starry Eyes, Take Me to the Top

8. Slayer - Reign in Blood
The mandatory metal album.
Highlights: Angel of Death, Raining Blood. Clearly.

9. Ratt - Out of the Cellar
I havent ever not gone a day without listening to Out of the Cellar. I'm not entirely sure why I even like Ratt so much. Probably the least talented out of a wide range of Glam Metal bands, but damn could they write catchy tunes
Highlights: Round and Round, Wanted Man, Lack of Commuinication

10. Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
I always liked the sophomore effort by the skids alot more than the self titled, which is the opposite of what I usually hear. It's heavier, and Baz really shines on it.
Highlights: Slave to the Grind, Monkey Business, Get the Fuck Out

Danny Thomas
(in no particular order, and suprisingly wide variety)

Arcturus- the Sham Mirrors
I still remember the first time i heard it. i was in very odd mood and during this period i found most of my metal collection worn out and over played, and wanted something new, fresh, and unique. and my friend sent me a copy of this album over the internet(i later bought it of coarse). it was about 12:20 at night(i guess technically in the morning) when i started listening to it, and i couldtn draw myself away until the album was over. i was mesmerized by the vocals, and the music changed so much in each song, let alone the album. now i listen to it when i need inspiration to write, well i pretty much listen to it a lot in general.

In Flames- Lunar Strain
Actually one of the first non american metal albums i listened to and still one of ym favoites. theres something so different about this album. it has a very medievil feel to it, as well as giving off a vibe off loneliness and solitude. i haven't found anything like it.

...And Oceans- Cypher
I know i am probably the only person who would have this on their list, but i guess that makes it all the more personal to me. for some reason i have always liked the style of the lyrics of this band, and especially this album. the music itself makes me picture colors and images in the most vibrant way. to me its colorful emotion in music form.

Norther- Dreams of Endless War
Imo the ultimate workout album! whenever i go to lift weights or run, this always seems to put me in the rigth mindset.

Dark Tranquillity- Character
i am a huge fan of this band, but i usuaslly only play their music at night. i have always belived their music was meant to be heard at night, especailly character. if i am going on a long drive i'll put this on and it kind of transports me somewhere else, and by the time it ends, i can't even recall the distance i had driven, its that powerful ro me.

Amduscia- Melodies For the Devil
this isn't metal, its actually industrial/EBM(electrionic body music) the reason i have this on here, is i can't think of any other album more enjoyable to make love to than this. your bodies just tend to sync up with the feel and beat of the music, very dark, very seductive.

Children Of Bodom- Follow the Reaper
bodom's best album and every track is amazing. another one of those albums that helped get me into a wider variety of metal.

Finntroll- Nattfodd
i love all the finntroll albums, but thsi was my first, and it was a breath of fresh air. i never thought black/death metal and folk and polka would work so well together, not to mention i have always loved trolls.

Eternal Tears of Sorrow- Chaotic Beauty
the whole album makes me think dark castle/cathedral. i never can just listen to one song because the whole album is amazing.

Dimmu Borgir- Stormblast(original)
i hated this cd at first, in fact im oretty sure i lsitened to it once then put it away for about 5 months.but after all that time i decided to give it a chance, and it ended up becoming my favorite album to fall asleep too.

Honorable mentions:

kalmah-swampsong
Amon Amarth- With Oden on Our Side
Iron Maiden- almost all of them(minus the ones with blaze)
Limbonic Art-moon in the Scorpio and In Abhorence dementia
Dimmu Borgir- For All Tid
Judas Priest- Painkiller
Ensiferum- Ensiferum
as well as all Opeth

i appologize for putting down so much but it's 3:55 am here and this its ahrd to limit it to ten, when so many albums have a huge impact on me

Mayhem - "Live In Leipzig" I bought this album in a hard time of my life, and it was such a grim company. It is a true black mass on stage, Dead's vocals are amazing and the overall atmosphere is just incredibly sinister.
Velvet Cacoon - "Genevieve" one of the most original metal albums, with an intense, hypnotic and refreshing, yet very dark atmosphere... while listening to it, I can abstract myself from everything else, just concentrate on the music and get stunned with it.
Agalloch - "Pale Folklore" most people like The Mantle, for me Pale Folklore is Agalloch's supreme masterpiece... a subtle beauty, inteligent concepts and a blood-chiling atmosphere fulfills everything, creating a soft, enchanting yet freightening mood.
Hypocrisy - "Penetralia" my favourite death metal album... very dark and diabolic, with Masse Bromber delivering an extraordinary vocal performance and Tägtgren helping from the underground with a corrosive riffing. "Penetralia" has some of the most wicked songs ever written.
Marduk - "Panzer Division Marduk" Overall I'm not a Marduk fan. Almost all their albums are just from mediocre to good, but PDM is a supreme masterpiece and also the heaviest Black Metal album ever recorded... heavy and dense as a panzer indeed. And the riffing is outstanding.
Shape Of Despair - "Shades Of..." it's difficult to me to explain why I like this album better than Angels Of Distress, but I just do... ok, it's repetitive, the rhythm doesn't change at all and the melodic progressions are neverendig recyclings of the same, but I love it. It has a mysterious, kind of romantic touch that I love, the vocals are amazing and the use of female voices as instruments are an awesome construction.
Primordial - "Journey's End" this is a tormented album, somehow immature, with songs certainly better than others, but I like it beyond words... lyrics are freightening poetry, and some songs reach an epic touch that chill the bones... "Autumn Ablaze" and "Bitter Harvest" are both among my favourite track ever.
Candlemass - "Nightfall" no words
Orphaned Land - "El Norra Alila" The most mystic album ever, and also one of the most original. An incredible mic between death metal, hebrew and arabic folk, touches of doom and a blissful religious spirit that takes you high.

lazarus
right now my top 10 is (no particular order):
The Gathering - How to Measure a Planer?
With this album the band started to add different elements to their music, we can define them from this moment as Atmospheric, songs like Red is a Slow Colour, Travel, Probably Built in the 50's are good example about the new direction that lasted until their next album, in which they changed again.
Opeth - My Arms,Your Hearse
Truly an effort that only those guys can make, every song is connected, their lyrics end with the first word of their next song.
Anathema - Alternative 4
It touches you really deep with its sadness, every lyric carries a pain that only the Cavanagh brothers know, we probably have met this feelings but we need their lead so we cannot get lost.
Green Carnation - A Blessing in Disguise
I discovered the album the last year, can you imagine what I thought about this piece of art at that time? well I didn't pay attention to anything, but now, after I've watched some of their live videos I really enjoy it and it's one of my fav bands.
Hollenthon - With Vilest of Worms to Dwell
I don't know why they stopped, because the music from both albums is superb, but in this one we can listen some samples of the most creepy sound we've ever heard probably in some movies, really!, I read that on a review about WVoWtD, it's not my idea.
Lacrimosa - Stille
I love the classic touch and Tilo exploded it a lot, the best classical song that is mixed with metal is the last track of the album, Stolzes herz.
Virgin Black - Elegant and Dying
Two words: The Everlasting.
Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle
I'm really good fan of prog stuff, and probably this concept is not as good as The Human Equation concept, but indeed it has the best line-up, some of the singers are not that kinda famous as the ones that are on Human Equation, but that makes it even better, to listen different voices.
Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
I also got into this the last year, I wasn't really a good fan of Viking Metal, but since Moonsorrow it all changed, the last two songs are the ones that I like the most.
Agalloch - The Mantle
The best the band have got.
