Lots of metal Heads feel that this genre has
nothing to offer, that it is unintelegent and
without feeling, that it's all about smokin'
joints and gang wars.
But others may realize that rap and metal
arn't so different after all. Just look at
How Public Enemy Did a Song with Anthrax,
It's simple, both metal and rap can tend to have
rebelious and politically themed music. (punk to actually)
They both can indicate Drug problems and spiritual
Awareness.
For me, Rap is my favorite Genre of Music second
only to metal (Of Course!) Because I feel, well......
Pretty much the same as how I explained on the previous
Paragraph. It's intelligent, Political and for the most part
rebellious music. It also sounds good to me, If it's a good
M.C., the words flow like water with the Beat in the background.
So, what about you, is it stupid to you?
Do just not like the Sound?
Or maby you Love the sound,
and hey, do you relate to it?
Go Forth and Tell me!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: If you're going to critisize this genre of Music in any Negative way, Please make sure you critisize it with some inteligence. Statements like "The Only Good Rapper is a dead one,"

Rap has no music value. Rap dont fall under professional Music. Rap lyrics are hidious. example, take the songs like 'ignition, thong song, right thur' and so much more. ignition is abt some dude walking from one traffic light to another and so on. that nelly dude even made a song about his shoes. some are lyrically good, but musically a sound of fart. lyrcially good like 2pac, eminem, public enemy...i like Rage Againt The Machines. but rap over all is just a pathetic fart sounding trumpet. i hate the way they dress, i hate the condoms on their head, i hate the low baggy pants, i hate the walk, i hate the attitude, i hate them waering those gold chains, i hate them wearing sunglasses at night in a shopping mall, i hate how all music videos has 'booty shakin'. i despise rap. just my opinion.

Rap has no musical value? At least it's better than heavy metal. All heavy metal bands do is downtune so they don't have to put effort into making it heavy. And metal lyrics are so fucking stupid, they're all about killing your parents and suicide. And I can't stand metal fans, they all think they're so hardcore just because their parents buy them accessories from Hot Topic.

Metal is a great thing, and so is rap, They both have intelligent and at times stupid lyrics, the fact is that they encompass everything a person can feel or think or say, they're equally great genres, which is why they're my two favorite, besides, arn't you a metal fan? Why else would you be a member of MS?

I was once very much into rap, well at least the Wu-Tang Clan,I still am into just not as much.I liked every sub-group from the clan as well, such as Killarmy,Gravediggaz,Sunz Of Man,Brooklyn Zu,Manchuz,La the Darkman,Wu-Syndicate,Shyheim and more. Most of the artists are very talented lyricists especially Gza and Killa Sin,La the Darkman and Hell Razah, but some are fake and commercial.I once had the Wu-Tang Manual which described the science behind the group in heavy detail. Also Bone Thugz first 3 albums are also classics, and anyone that is getting into rap should check them out.

30.09.2006 - 18:15 Written by Arian Totalis on 27.09.2006 at 23:13 Great, there's some other people who like them here! What separates them from the "bling bling" kind of rappers,is that they play with real instruments and have SOLOS! But there's more than just The Roots, they just are probably my favorites. Have you heard their new album,Game Theory? It's the one with the sitck-guy (or whatever it is in english) hanged on the cover. I've heard a few songs from it,seems to be a pretty cool album and a bit more serious than The Tipping Point or the rest. I'll have to check out the rest of it too...

Yeah,"Organix" is a great debut album. Too bad I can't find it anywhere,I remember enjoying it when I borrowed it from a library. If I remember correct, the "Home Grown!" albums are compilations, there's Vol.1 and Vol.2. But I think The Roots got better on their later albums, after "Things Fall Apart" it all went for better (not that the albums before would be bad ).

30.09.2006 - 19:28 Written by Arian Totalis on 27.09.2006 at 01:21 Please do yourself a favor, read this and then re-read Collision's post again I used to like Hip Hop when I was younger, but I don't like what Hip Hop has turned to nowadays. All that bling-bling, gangsta style, gold chains and the discriminating talk about bitches and hoes really turns me off. I've never been much into underground rap, but I could imagine that that kind of stuff is for the underground Hip Hop scene what Nu Metal and Metalcore is for us underground metalheads: the inferior side of our beloved style that gets attention from the media, shapes the general perception in the mainstream and thus attracts the Hot Topic kiddies none of us really likes. And I'm glad that in days like these groups like Outkast and Cypress Hill can still get through without jumping on the "bitches and bling-bling" bandwagon. Good ol' days when Run DMC and Beastie Boys still represented what it all was about. Enough of my history whining. I still enjoy rap when it doesn't have blatantly stupid and discriminating lyrics (Snoop Dogg is quite good at those), when it is powerful and energetic (DMX, Dead Prez), up-beat (I'm still impressed by LL Cool J's fast shots in "Shut Em' Down") or at least has a good beat to make up for any deficiencies (Dr. Dre, Fort Minor). Unfortunately too much of today's Hip Hop relies on those beats, so that every third-class rapper can get high sales as long as a good producer sits behind the tables - Jay-Z definitely belongs into that league of heavily overrated artists. The absolute opposite are The Roots who score a lot alone by the fact that they use actual instruments, which adds a kind of grooviness and funkiness I miss in most rap music. But yeah, as you can guess from all of my examples I never really dug my way through to the underground. It wasn't until this thread that I actually made myself aware of the fact that good Hip Hop actually does exist. EDIT: Listening to some The Roots stuff on Youtube, I stumbled over this song which pretty much sums up the entire first half of post

@Promonex: wow, I really apreciate that song, it actually reminds me of Dead Prez with the Messege pertrayed in the song/Video. But I really don't neceserrily Mind the whole Bling-bling thing, or the Gangsta thing, Because there are still rappers in that field who do a lot for their communitys and spread wise messeges, Just Listen th the song "I Can" by Nas, in the song he tells children how if they work hard, it doesn't matter how much money you have, you can grow up to be what you want. Tupac Has an endless number of songs that deals with the aspect of fighting urban Decay. Brenda's got a baby is a perfect example. But still, thanks for the song. It's pretty good.

05.10.2006 - 17:35 Written by Arian Totalis on 30.09.2006 at 23:22 Right on. Whenever people talk about rap and hip hop,it's linked to gangsta rap and music videos with gold, cars,(in most cases) black women, all these expensive clothes and stuff. And if you like metal, that's when people usually think you hate rap and hip hop. But it seems to me there are some people here who understand the WHOLE genre more deeper. Cool.

Agreed. I don't like all metal either so... By the way,do you like beatboxing? It doesn't necessarily belong to either rap or hip hop,at least I don't consider it like that, but it does incorporate some rap/techno/hip hop-beats. Here's a couple of videos I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55C0RirU3yA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ46jC5Dfb0 Damn, this is fun stuff! And requires a lot of skill too.
