What makes you listen to black metal?
|
Hey, I'm curious to know what makes you people listen to black metal? how did you started listening to it?
1st black metal song you listened? Is there any band that as finished that you wish them to come back?
What do you think about the future of black metal?
I love all in black metal, the ideas, the atmosphere, the vocals, drums etc... I started listening to black metal when a friend of mine gave me gorgoroth - pentagram to listen. I loved it and i went right over to a store here and bought the album, since then I have bought many Black metal albums from bands like immortal, nokturnal mortum, darkthrone, carpathian forest and many more. the 1st song i listened was "under the pagan megalith" (awsome track from pentagram).
I am really excited about the idea of immortal re-union, they are one of my favorite bands, I love all their albums (but specialy pure holocaust )
About the future, i think the good bands will always remain but new bands are needed and i don't see excelent new bands.
Here in Portugal we have bands like Lux Ferre, In Thy Flesh, Opus Draconis, Corpus Christii and more, in my opinion they are great but they don't have support to go on and this is happening all over the world.
Please post your opinions and stories
Cheers!

Well I happened to listen to ''Live in Leipzig '' by Mayhem and I was fascinated by the guitar and Dead's voice. I support Euronymous ideology of black metal : Satanic, misanthropic, against individualism etc... You know for me there are only two main groups in black metal. The Satanic part , with Euronymous' ideology and the pagan one having darkness, nature, winter etc... as their main theme. Although it disturbs me that some people relate this kind of black metal with Varg Vikernes's views even though most of pagans do not have his views. Every other ''black metal'' subgenre is plain stupid. Fascist black metal, nazi black metal , anarchist black metal. If you use politics in black metal , you should stay the fuck away from it. But my biggest disdain goes for nsbm and everyone who has their ideologies who do not have a place in black metal...Luckily the scene is hated by the vast majority of the black metal bands/fans. Black metal is freedom. it should not be one with the ignorance of the society. Some of this posers and their stupid views, hide by saying that they are not nazis and yet have their same ideas. Some justify saying that nationalism and racism are not related (even though they are linked together) and use music to spread their stupidity. (e.g peste noir and their frontman). These fuckers should be found and torn to pieces. I remember reading an interview of Drakh from Katharsis, a german satanic black metal band. And he basically said something like this '' everybody who promote nationalism, that pseudo pagan racialism, other philanthropic shit and Those who use that stupid ''14'' word should be put to the oven too. Misanthropy toward everyone!''':banger2:

There's a lot more to black metal than just the pagan and satanic styles. And certainly a lot more than the NSBM scene.

I listen to black metal because, hope not to sound arrogant or conceited, but I feel it has a lot more honesty, truth, expression, and overall significance as art than most music. I listen to alot of Xasthur, Striborg, Burzum, even Sunn O))) even though it is in its own category. The rawness, depression, anger, and other emotions that go into this music makes it very powerful. I remember when I first heard Xasthur's Telepathic With the Deceased, the instrumental intro track alone moved me beyond words. It's so haunting and dark. Everyone has a hidden darkness in the back of their mind. I guess I am saying that I truly appreciate music that explores it and puts it on display. That is true art. It isn't mindless and empty chart topping music made solely for popularity.

For me its the atmosphere the the extremeness of the genre. but its very very different from band to band. taake, old blut aus nord for example oozes so much energy which i love. summoning provides so much richness in music with such subtlety and obviously the theme of tolkien brings the epicness and atmosphere automatically. these are just some well known bands but lesser known bands like ygg, walknut, paysage, forest, alrakis etc create an aura which is unique in their own way and makes me fall in love with black metal everyday. i was a fanboy of many metal genres at different points of time but for me black metal clicks the right way specially atmospheric black metal.

Black metal creates an atmosphere like no other. Stuff like Paysage d'Hiver use the common traits of BM and take them to the extreme in every way. It can create a solitary and deep coldness with the repetitive riffing and atmospherics. Then there's Darkspace, and more like Xothist, Alrakis, and whatnot that use the same traits in the same way, but tweak them for a whole new feeling of suffocation, vastness and empty space. Then there's straightforward black metal that just rocks your socks off in it's unrelent. That, and black metal riffs are just plain sick and epic.

Well, my first metal songs were Black Metal, but it was kind of too extreme for me then. Anyway, in time I got used to it, and it holds a huge nostalgic value. Lately I've been getting more into Death and haven't been listening to Black so often, some Mayhem or Immortal now and then.

I generally go for the technical and progressive stuff, Obscura or Vintersorg, so black metal is a change of pace. No arpeggios, no 17/11 time signatures, just straight-ahead anthems about leading the battlions of Satan's army to glory!!! And small children. Small children make me want to listen to black metal, too.

They are bunch of kid who think they are cult, strong, badass. Shit you know it well 'ghost, and lots of occult, witch etc',? yup they always make up like a ghost, worship ghost but i fell nothing, and they are fuckin muslim. Before I listen to bm yeah i was ex-satanist, I know almost 90% at indonesia was muslim. If you read about history, before 5 religions come here, there are animism. I one of them, and my family too. But i feel so empty so I quit and try to learn satanism by myself.
