If anyone could cram as much variety and catchiness into 8 songs I'd sure like to hear it; this is unquestionably the dynamic combination of Ritchie Blackmore & Ronnie James Dio at its climax.

When I first picked up this album on vinyl a year or so ago my expectations, to be completely honest, were very low. I was a very big Dio fan but very little of what Deep Purple had to offer impressed me, but as a die-hard Dio fan it was a must have, and since then I've failed to see any Dio material or Deep Purple material that can beat, let alone match this album.

How come there isn't a comments here. This album is so pioneer and important for the history of rock n' roll.
Perfect album, Dio approve who is and will be forever the best vocalist in all history of rock 'n' roll.
As long i'm a fan of this music, the album will go with me to the grave.

same quasten here, and this is much better how all Dio solo albums, IMO Dio shood stay in Elf, old Rainbow sound and lyrics, somehow
This is good peace , but after it Blackmore ruin all, they wante dgo modern comercalized sound and who is KING Dio or deep purple?

My least favourite of the Rainbow albums with Dio on vocals. Still good, but not exceptional like the other two.

I came here to write the same thing! Yeah, I never liked this album when compared to Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (my favorite) or even Rising

Also never hung this one as high as the debut and Rising. That said Gates of Babylon of course is classic material, and Rainbow Eyes is a nice song.

Their most mixed album IMO. Some tracks are excellent (1 & 4), some very good (2, 5, 6 & 8) and some just good (3 & 7).

I was quite cold to this one before but as I listened today i'm loving it. Not really any worse than Rising or the debut. Lady of the Lake and Rainbow Eyes are my favourites along with (of course) Gates of Babylon.
