A great death band in my opinion. Great growls, and wow, that woman sounds so amazing!

Doomsday Machine was recorded with Chris so we really have yet to tell how they will be without him.

That's a really good point right there...

To say that they've matured now would just be silly, especially with the amount of years Michael spent in other bands, I'd say they worked up to producing a mature piece before they were known, hence, I believe that Black Earth was a more mature effort, depsite being produced at an earlier point in their career.

By the way Johan Liiva is better (read my previous statement if you must know why) than the 'robotic' Angela...

Liiva is a great vocalist yes...he has great emotion and unbridaled anger in his music...especially in a song like Demonic Science...that's my favorite Liiva period song from Arch Enemy...I'm a firm beleiver still that Doomsday Machine is a mature release still and they have been evolving over the years to this...sure, a band goes through formative years in order to produce their first album but Doomsday Machine is maturity...

Is Angela really a transexual as I 've heard or not ?
Exactly I 've heard many times that the ex-Arch Enemy vocalist -male- is Angelaas a transexual.... Does anyone of you know the truth ???

Doomsday machine, in my opinion, is the discards from their previous efforts with Angela, it lacks the energy overall, which other releases of theirs contained, even those with Angela. I believe they've also begun to lose the edge they once carried. Sure, you can have brilliant musicianship by your side, but without inspiration, you are nothing (eg, Metallica -> Load, etc.). I'll admit that a few tracks were good, but the impression it gave just didn't satisfy myself or my friends whom have heard it, seeing as we all prefer their other works over Doomsday Machine. Ironically, Hybrids Of Steel did make it into my favourite songs compilation (see as mentioned)...

I agree that Doomsday machine is not as good as the older arch enemy albums, but they have a constant amount of good music still. The album is not boring to listen to and they still have have the right stuff. Sico:banger2:

@Anathememani@c What is this thread comming to as if it is necessary to discuss the gender of Angela Gossow it seems pretty obvious to me that she is a woman so no there is not truth to her being a transexual how did you even come up with that?

Great band though I liek the guitar work on the old albums alot better then the new one's but I prefer Angela's vocals.

I don't dislike his vocals I just think Angelas vocals suit them alot better then his do. His vocal style was fairly monotone compared to Angela's hers are more dynamic and aggressive. He still was a decent vocalist though.

I don't know. She isn't really dynamic IMO. She uses the same tone in every song and has a pretty average growl.

Why does everyone dislike J. Liiva so much?

Have you heard the burning japan live cd? It's like he's whispering and screaming in the same time! I'm sorry but i did not like the vocals on that disc one bit. In studio he was better. Angela wasn't that good live in the begining either but now, just listen to Live Apocalypse-AWESOME! Plus she always kicked ass in studio as well!

I've heard bits and pieces of Burning Japan, so I can't judge his performance there. Angela has a good voice and sounds great on the DVD, but I don't think she is as good as everyone gives her credit for.

Yeah, she is a little overrated I suppose. Her performance on "Doomsday" was not as spectacular as the previous two albums but maybe that was because the music wasn't as good either. I will have to check out the DVD before I fully make up my mind on Angela's vocal abilities.

That reminds me: is the DVD worth getting?

What do you guyz think of this new Fredrik guitarist? Is he as good as Chris was? I'm asking of course those of you who saw them live wit da new guy as he hasn't done any work in studio yet. I'm downloading a bootleg from a show in Australia and by previewing it Fredrik doesn't sound that good. Maybe i should wait for the dowload to finish and then give my opinion. Anyway, as a player i thought Chris was even better than Michael as i never saw Chris make mistakes live but Michael, plenty... So what's the story wit this Fredrik guy?

When did Michael say that, do u have the interview? I finished downloading that concert and it's the Australian Gigantour 2006. Not only does Michael make mistakes plenty in "I am legend/out for blood" but the new guy ain't much better either. It must be said that someone in the crowd shot it with an amateur camera but Fredrik's notes in the "Dead Burry Their Dead" solo are kind of weak. Maybe it was just a bad night for them.
