Well, i'm maybe idiot on this but, i want to know what is the Stoner sub-genre of metal.. i've seen for many times the bands listed here on metalstorm, and i always believed that Queens Of The Stone Age, was a rock band, but i found them here... so.. i want to know, what's makes them metal, and what is Stoner Metal...

Sludge usually actually sounds dirty, and can have a hardcore influence in terms of intensity in the performance. See Neurosis, Cult Of Luna or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQkTQIN_5Fk

Well, technically, whilst defining Sludge you should start off with the pure Sludge bands, not atmospheric sludge bands like CoL, Isis, Neurosis etc. IMO.
I'm talking about Eyehategod, Crowbar, Iron Monkey, CoC, Acid Bath etc. where the hardcore influence shows quite predominantly. But yes, what you posted is accepted in today's terminology of the word 'sludge' I suppose. It's just that these classic sludge acts shouldn't be forgotten.

Herein is again a lot of stoner/sludge ambivalence, as Crowbar is clearly "just" sludge, whereas CoC and Acid Bath especially with later material tend towards a very stoner sound. One has to love semantics

Thanks Cryptïc (& Bitter, I think? ), I wasn't too confident when giving my descriptions. CoC is perfect, I probably just forgot them cos I've heard only one of their songs, however great that one was. What I've heard from Crowbar is pretty nice too, especially "Dead Sun".

While we're on the topic can someone who owns the album please tell me, is the CoC song supposed to be "Stonebreaker", "Stone Breakers" or what?!

I believe it is Stonebreaker. I can look at the album case when I get home tonight to make sure though.

You have to realize though that even though both Sludge and Stoner have their roots in Doom and Blues, they went off in two very different directions, and were both heavily influenced by some completely different genre's of music. Stoner was born out of mostly "Desert" Rock and Psychedelic Rock where as Sludge took it's influence from Hardcore and Southern Rock (NOLA scene.) Obviously though, the two have strong connections.

I don't know where I'm going with this, just felt like saying it.

stoner metal is a metal genre and Queens Of The Stone Age doesn't belong in it. Kyuss invented it, often using the term "dessert rock" and later, other bands popped out of the scene sometimes combining it with other styles like doom or sludge. my favorite stoner artists are: Corrosion Of Conformity, Kyuss, Electric Wizard, High On Fire.

I actually read Josh Homme didn't like the LA drug scene. Whether or not they actually went into the desert to play is up to debate, but I find it funny his music is/was labeled as Stoner.

I'd check out Slo Burn. John Garcia from Kyuss fame does vocals on their only main release, the EP 'Amusing the Amazing.' It's actually some really great rock.http://www.myspace.com/sloburnruled

I also just found this great band called, originally enough, The Ganja's. A great band from Chile, check them out. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=59802803

It might be because of the "I don't give a shit" nature of Grunge and Stoner. I know this is a long shot, but perhaps even the drug culture can be put into sound and production? Plus, it's obvious some bands will have an influence over almost any genre, like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, which influenced both Grunge and Stoner.

So I just checked out this stoner metal band called Sheavy, and the vocals are an exact replica of Ozzy, especially on the album, The Machine That Won the War. I think I might buy it next time I go to the store.

Also, Valkyrie is pretty good. The vocals sound like a more annoying version of the dude from The Sword, but their redeeming quality are the instrumentals. Seriously, some of them sound similar to The Allman Brothers.

I love Sheavy, somehow their music puts me in a very good mood... and yes, I wonder if the vocalist isn't actually Ozzy... and the songwriter someone from Pentagram... but anyway, a very enjoyable band.

I don't think that's a long shot at all, the certain guitar tones, tempos, vocal effects etc. that tend to make up stoner music exist because of the effect they have on the stoned listener.

I don't think that Eyehategod is stoner at all.. I would say sludge.
I'm not an expert when it coms to stoner but Electric Wizard is one of my favorite bands at the moment. Reallt awesome feeling after hearing their songs, specially the ones from Dopethrone.
