You know I had only heard about them,but yesterday I actually heard Ripping Corpse,mostly known for being Erik Rutan's first band.They only released one album "Dreaming With The Dead" it is a death/thrash combo I'd say,with harsh and brutal vocals,but yet comprehensible.Man you have got to hear "Rift Of Hate" the song is the highlight of the album,superb rift and drumming,and has some sweet demonic growl effects,really reminded me of Decide.Its praised as a undergroud classic and I can see why.Anyone else know of them?

Death. I mean, does it get any better than 'The sound of perseverance'? Morbid Angel have polluted their high level a bit with their later albums, I think. Of the newer bands, Mors Principium Est is awesome...

Morbid Angel because they elevated the genge and Nile for being their worthy successors.

I'm sure there won't be another similar Death metal band. A Handful of incredible albums and a legend that lives on. I love also other Death metal bands but not as Death.

You really can't include death in this crowd, they are by far my favorite, but The Raw Death metal they had only lasted for 2 albums then they went to Progressive-Death. But Death still is the best.

Nile, definately. I'm not a big fan of brutal death, but I do enjoy Nile. Most death metal is either boring or freaking disgusting (Like Cannibal Corpse)

I voted Cannibal Corpse, they got me into no-melo death metal, and also I find their lyrics very funny In second place I would have voted Death because of the later works.

and a little bit of useless trivia: cannibal copse made a well-known appearance in Ace Ventura's : Pet Detective, But it was at the request of Jim Carry - as Cannibal Corpse is his favorite band.

A little out of date, I don't think they're Jim Carrey's favourite band any more, but I could well be wrong.

I thought that he only liked them because they were so laughable? Early CC was awesome and they just haven't been quite as good with Corpsegrinder.

I dont know I have read that they played at his wedding,now that is awfully romantic So he must've actually liked their music.

I think that Crytopsy are an awesome band. You wanna know why I didn't include them. Two classic albums doesn't really make the cut. I'm not into the new stuff. Some might wuestion why Obituary and Autopsy are up there. Obituray had three classics and they were very original. Autopsy only had two classics, but I had to put one Old School Death band in the poll.

I wouldnt call Opeth purely death metal, but Im with Grind Bastard, there really isnt such thing as the greatest DM band ever, its subjective to differrent tastes.

Notice the question, it's not the greatest DM band it's the one enjoy the most. There is a big, big difference between them.

Opeth is damn awesome. They are my favorite band ever. What are your favorite album and song? For me the album is either Still Life, Morningrise, or Ghost Reveries. The song is too hard to figure out! They have too many awesome songs.

Brutality has became one of my favorites latley,not a very well known band,only released 3 albums,two of which I have heard.I have been searching for their debut "Screams Of Anguish",and cant seem to come by it,have almost all songs downloaded,exceptionally good technical death metal.Their vocalist reminds me of Gorguts lead singer alot.which is a good thing.
