2008 U.S. Presidential Election

With much pontificating on whether to even start this one, (due to the anticipation of a major headache), I present to you the official thread of the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. I am just too damn interested in seeing what everyone (U.S. and non-U.S. citizens alike) thinks. I would like for all of us to approach this in an atypical matter. DO NOT discuss petty issues that are discussed every day by various media outlets. (Abortion, Same-Sex Marriage, Etc.) Such issues have been presented to us with intent to take our minds off of things that are actually important.
Feel free to grace us with your opinions of the Political Candidates, Political Debates, Important Issues such as solutions for Iraq, The role that the U.S. will play in the world, Etc. Try also not to look only 4 years into the future...that is what has gotten the U.S. into so much trouble in the past...
Go 'lite' on posting or quoting tons of links to other sights. Everything should come from yourself...and please keep the personal insults to a minimum...we all (hopefully) have the same goal to make the world a better place. Unfortunately that peace is currently being halted by greedy politicians. Remember to keep the big question in mind: What political figure would be the best for the entire Global community and why? Go at it fools!

I do know so who are extremly clean and do amazing works, but they are ussually on the small community level. With the two major canidates for this terms USA presidential elections, I find very little about either one that would make me want to vote for them.

That's impossible for BAHAMAS, but for Canada, man scratch the religiousness............ Our election was last year and the opposite party to whom I voted for, during their rallies, they would ALWAYS try to use religion as a guilt trip! Gettin on the mic saying prayers and shit asking God to lead them to victory (it's no wonder we'll never make it to first world : ) ......But HAH!! As it turns out, the party I supported and voted for won!! Guess their prayers didn't work lol (not to be mean and conceited).

Alcohol is much worse than marijuana and must be compared with harddrugs. I drink alcohol also, but I need to be very carefull how much I drink. Much alcohol is very unhealthy. Even a smaal amount of heroïn doesn't have to be bad. But a bigger amount is. But drugs can sometimes be medicine also, but it is for many people no fun because they are addicted. You will need to be carefull with it.

"John McCain chooses Sarah Palin, the Republican Governor of Alaska, as his vice-presidential running mate in the 2008 U.S. presidential election." GAME OVER She is pro-life but also a feminist, against gay marriage but has gay "friends." She is a mother of FIVE, the eldest of whom is in the Army, he now serves in an infantry brigade and will be deployed to Iraq on September 11, 2008. She is a lifetime member of the NRA and has admitted that she has smoked marijuana. All those voters who supported Hillary simply to see a woman become President have a new hope, because we all know McCain is going to croak while in office.

This is like the dirtiest campaigns ever, even though whoever wins won't really change much. So funny Derek Black (HAHA) joined republican party after everything Blacks had did, at the same time they bring Sarah Palin who don't remember what is she supposed to say or do so she said she loves gay even though she hates them. Lame.

Well, from what I gather, he's trying to say that she pretends she likes gays just to get some extra votes, and is hiding the fact that she hates them because it would be troublesome.

Okay so Palin is against gay marriage but has gay friends. Hell, I even know gays who are against gay marriage. SO, I don't see what's the impossibility of Palin's statement.

hmm..reconsidering it it's not the impossibility of the statement that I don't appreciate, but rather its pointlessness, see saying that she is against gay marriage and full stop is acceptable to me,it's a clear opinion, but adding that she have gay friends, yes that is not necessarily uncoherent, but makes me think that she is seeking to gain 'even some' gay voters on her side, which diminishes her credibility, not just about her,but about every politician that is running a campaign and who is adjusting his principles to fit what some categories of voters would appreciate,it goes on Obama as well as on McCain.

LMAO I just found out that a few Republicans, including McCain and Fox News, said that Palin is good with foreign policy because Alaska is close to Russia. I shit you not. You have to be a moron to vote for McCain. If McCain is elected and dies, and that could be fucking today since he's 72 fucking years old, Palin being the President would be a complete disaster. I also hate it how McCain, for the last two years at least, has been attacking Obama for being inexperienced, and hired a little bitch who has even less experience than Obama AFTER MEETING WITH HER ONE TIME. He just wants the Clinton votes, and it's so obvious it hurts.

" it's amazing, the republicans have fought their campaigns for the last 20 years on the presumption that americans are stupid, and to my amazement it worked every time" I completely agree, and what angers me the most is that my own people still cant see this, and are STILL being made a mockery of in front of the whole worlds eyes, A fucking Embarrassing Shame

There are actually people (a surprising number of them in fact) that are afraid that Obama is muslim because of his middle name and won't vote for him because of that! All I ever see on the news is more about Palin. I can't understand why people are so in love with her! No one seems to care that Palin is an idiot who says somethings and contradicts it in the same speech and had to be told what the Bush doctrine was by an interviewer. After eight years of almost complete incompetence from the white house, I can't begin to fathom that people would want another 4 years of this crap. Maybe Americans have just become so focused on a person's image that that is all we care about anymore. The Republicans don't want this to be a serious election about the issues; they want it to be a shameless popularity contest and GUESS WHAT we are buying into it whole-heartedly. Looks like we are gonna get 4 years with Prom King McCain and Prom Queen Palin. Frankly, I'm at the point now that if we elect McCain and Palin, I think we must deserve them.

I can't vote because I am only a legal resident of the US but I can tell that if McCain wins, this country is going to hell in a hand basket quicker than anything. It's not the fact that I generally disagree with Republicans and their policies, its the fact that McCain chose Palin. For those who think John McCain = Bush, you are wrong. Sarah Palin = Bush. If McCain (a man with a previous history of cancer and the oldest man to serve as president, if he is elected) croaks, we are going to go from a religious, warmongering nut job president to another. McCain doesn't even have to croak. Remember the key word is "incapacitated", if he gets cancer or suffers some major health decline in office, we are fucked.

I just couldn't stand the ignorance, and just for the record I support neither but if I had to choose it would be Obama, "Maybe Americans have just become so focused on a person's image that that is all we care about anymore. While I may not personally agree with the policies, they nonetheless have pretty solid reasons for their decisions. Many people are for McCain on the basis that he has more experience than Obama does, which has been the biggest criticism of Obama from both major parties. Interestingly, most people I have talked to (even those supporting Obama) have no clue what Obama stands for, just what he stands against.

19.09.2008 - 21:27 Written by Dane Train on 19.09.2008 at 20:13 After making Obama's inexperience his main attacking point, McCain goes out and recruits someone just as inexperienced to be his running mate... it's crazy. I overheard my Mum's friends talking about how they are going to vote for McCain simply because of Palin, so maybe it was a smart move on the Republican's part, they definitely know how to win elections, something I cannot say about the Democrats. I agree that this race has created many "pundits" who support either candidate for shallow reasons, and have no idea what they stand for. I myself cannot wait until the election is over, the media has just driven me crazy with the stupidity of their reporting. It is no longer about the issues, I'm not sure if it ever was, and is simply a race-sex-age distraction party.

I suspect the young adult vote in the U.S. is the only thing that can stop the Republicans. If the 18 to 35 demographic goes to polls en masse, then Barack Obama will go to the White House. So get out and vote! Tell all your friends to do the same. And make sure they don't vote for the wrinkly, old white guy.
