Holy shit what a game. What I loved most of the match was the fact that Chile didn't let go. They didn't relax. That's usually their problem: They chill out after things are getting good (for example: Australia) but NOT THIS DAY. The team was all "No guys, we are going to fuck you up all the way". Beautiful!

The goalkeeper Bravo was amazing. Tighter than a duck's ass. But the rest of the defence was brilliant as well. They all went Gandalf-mode.

Game , well I think Ausie could win this one if there would be luck, they deserve draw, Holland played different seems they thought its be easier, but in end they won

Watched like 20 or so minutes of this one today. Watching grown men act like total pussies gets old very fast, so I didn't watch much, but I noticed another stupid rule in soccer that doesn't have quite as adverse an effect as all the diving, but still totally silly nonetheless.

The Australian player shortly after half crossed the ball in the box and it hit the Netherlands player in the hand. The Australians got a penalty shot and scored. I call bullshit on that goal though, for multiple reasons. First and foremost, I don't think the Dutch guy could have moved his hand out of the way if he tried. It makes no sense to call a penalty shot on him just cause the ball happened to hit his arm, because the guy was trying to cross it from very close. At the end of the day fouling someone in the penalty box is an action and that resulting in a penalty shot I understand, but when you are just standing there and couldn't possibly react quickly enough to get your hand out of the way, that's dumb.

Not only that, the cross wasn't going in. I don't see how it makes sense to give someone what is so far in the world cup a 100% goal for what is at best a marginal scoring chance broken up.

Back when I played soccer, if something like that happened the ref wouldn't give a penalty shot, cause it's obvious the defender isn't intentionally using their hand to block the ball when the attacker shoots from so close to them. And people would play on.

MY SOLUTION: If a defender handballs it in the box on a shot that isn't going in, give the attackers a corner kick. If they use their hand to break up a shot on net, give the attacker a penalty shot.

Pro soccer is whack though, they gotta get all that diving sorted out and ideally implement some kind of rules to stop all the bogus completely boring defenders passing to each other in a line for 5 minutes at a time.

Soccer is fun to play, I agree with that. I played competitive soccer a few years ago and there was very little of the nonsense you see in the world cup. Certainly way less sissy diving around and lying on the ground holding your knees faking an injury. Some people did it but most didn't.

Spain did suck I think a big part of why Spain (and Barcelona) have fallen so far from their former glory is not just that the key players (Xavi, Iniesta) are getting older or have lost motivation, it is that opponents have finally figured out that Busquets is the one who makes both teams tick. When Busquets is properly guarded and his 10/10 vision and passing skills are disrupted, the rest of the team suffers immensly. Add to that the fact that Busquets himself hasn't been on form lately and the answer to why the mighty have fallen becomes clearer. There's a reason why both Del Bosque and Guardiola have said that were they players, they'd want to be Busquets, if he can't perform, Spain can't perform. There is more to Spain's problems of course, but that's one major problem.

Needless to say that shouldn't have been a penalty. Preventing a goal with a handball as a field player is a straight red card, like Suarez did in the previous World Cup quarter-final against Ghana.

Another possibility in that situation would be an indirect free kick (instead of a corner kick), similar to when a GK handles a back pass from a team-mate.

Whether its in the rules or not the refs still make the wrong call. Same thing with diving. By giving the attacking team a corner on a shot that otherwise wouldn't have gone in, at least the wrong call isn't leading to a straight goal.

An indirect free kick is often a better chance than the attacker would have had in the first place, so I think a corner would still be better for unintentional hand balls that aren't shots on net.

Honestly, even if the ball is going in I would give the defender the benefit of the doubt unless it's an extremely obvious use of their hands. Attacking players shouldn't get huge rewards for belting it at the defenders arms, that's just bad soccer.

Very Happy for Costa Rica. Denied a clear penalty, but still came out on top and on top of the group. Italy was weak, really. It's as if the players had legs of stone, they had trouble controlling the ball as a team, they had trouble controlling the ball individually and they deserved to lose and to lose 2-0.

Then France 5 Swiss 2: What can i say, did Von Bergen exit affected Swiss defense? Maybe a little bit, but i think the fails were in the midfielder, and caused by the fraglie tactic system, already in Ecuador game they were very risky... anyway, in other hand France did just what they have to do, without having the ball too much they controlled the game, i think in general they all played pretty well, i could Highlight Giroud, Debuchy, Benzema, Sissouko, Valbuena, and Pogba who enter on the second time, don't understend why, make a delightful assist to Benzema, then Dzeimailli made the first free kick goal of the world cup and Xhaka goal assisted by Inler (who had a poor game except for this pass).

Finally Ecuador 2 Honduras 1: Well Honduras showed some tactical order they defense was organized but there wasn't much else than that... Enner Valencia was great, Antonio is still in the dark... Ecuador owned the ball and Honduras was waiting and attacking, Honduras made the first goal but Ecuador tied the game fast, on the second half ecuador take advantage in a really nice free kick play, after that Ecuador give the ball to Honduras, it was quite stressing, since the coudlnt hold the ball, they keep losing the ball but Honduras played poorly
