COB earlier albums are majestic but DB's albums are ALL fantastic. So I chose DB.

I don't think of Dimmu Borgir as sell outs... just because they experiment with each album and make a living off of their efforts doesn't mean they're not a BM band anymore. The church burnings, kvlt ideals and murders shouldn't define BM as a genre. The fact that veteran BM band members have collaborated with Dimmu (like Hellhammer lending himself to drums and Abbath tracking vocal parts on the songs "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse" and "Heavenly Perverse") is proof that fans are the only ones who give a shit about a BM band's "True" status. There's really no difference between the Dimmu Borgir then and now. It's not like they changed their sound to attract a wider audience. If they had done such then they wouldn't be writing songs about the extermination of humanity and denying Christ... they'd be writing songs about teenage angst. They just progressed like every other band does. Look at Darkthrone. They're not still putting out albums like "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" and "Under A Funeral Moon". I don't really care for bands that stagnate in their sound. Why keep buying the same record over and over again? They just write music that is more accessible than a Carpathian Forest or Moonblood offering. If you don't like what they're putting out then don't buy it. As for Cradle Of Filth I don't think they sold out as much as they just changed their style. These acts were just smart about marketing themselves. I love underground Black Metal but a band's success shouldn't determine whether they are Black or not. I know this post is somewhat off topic but to answer the original question I prefer Dimmu. COF have strayed too far from their original sound for my tastes. Their first four records are brilliant... but I love all of DB's records.

My vote goes to Dimmu Borgir. even though they've changed their style, they're one of my favorites in BM. The term sellout does not apply to them, as they have changed they're stlye to experiment, and don't copy the original BM second wave(mayhem, gorgoroth, burzum, imortal, etc.) with bad production and overuse of technices(trem picking, blasbeats, etc.). I hope I've made sence.

I'm not getting into the sellout debate at all but I will take any opportunity to vote for Dimmu Borgir. I don't care how "popular" a band is, that really makes no impact on me. Dimmu makes great music, call it whatever you like.

Dimmu. They definitly arent as hardcore sellouts as COF. That and they were pretty cool live.

Cradle of Filth is not a sellout BM band, because they never were worth anything!!! They never sold out because they were always GAY. Dimmu on the other hand used to kick ass.

I don't care if either are sell-outs, they're both good listening, however Dimmu gets my vote simply because Cradle disappoint me frequently with bad covers, although they do have the occasional good one. Plus although I like his vocals, Dani filth is a prick.

The definition of sell-out is a band that makes what the market asks for, something trendy... how could be sell-outs two bands that are perfectly original, unique in their own way??? they had been copied to death afterwards, but that's not their problen...

When I saw them a year ago, during the last verses of Cthulu Dawn... well Dani's voice was louder and sung in probably the highest tone I've ever heard! It was insane! I remember during that, that both me and my friend looked at each other at the same time with a face expression like this:

My friend saw CoF a while ago and apparently they were dreadful, Dani came out in jeans and a tshirt from what I hear. Whereas Dimmu put on a killer show, corpse paint and all.
