I just find it curious to know which death metal band everyone enjoys the most. For me it would have to be Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse or Nile.

My vote is a resounding Other!

I like these death metal bands before any of the ones listed:

Bolt Thrower
Atheist
The Chasm
Lykathea Aflame
Decapitated
Gorguts
Demilich
Malevolent Creation

Nice list.

I voted Death, I love the lyrics, music and innovation in it.
Just perfection.

This whole list is good, but there are just too many death metal bands I like. It's almost impossible to choose which one is the best one. I've been listening to Obituary a lot lately. I will be seeing those guys 3 times in one month.

Most powerful stream of smell of death comes from the heart of Ola Lindgren. So, at the moment, answer is absolutely Grave!

How do you people vote death, nile, AND CANNIBAL CORPSE OMFG over Morbid Angel? Morbid Angel easily beats them all.

Not a fan of Death Metal, but how come Morbid Angel beats Death (I don't about the other two, maybe). I have just listened to their famous Altars of Madness... boring...seriously. Even the first Death album is much more interesting than this one. And I am not talking about the later releases. I haven't listened to any other albums by MA, so maybe I'm wrong, but if that's the best they've got, they are definitely not better than Death.

Trey wrote way better solos than Chuck.

I heartily disagree. Death is by far the all time best death metal. Morbid Angel is good for three albums that helped innovate the genre, then they went very boring.

That's very hard to believe, but I will definitely check those bands out. For me, next to no one wrote better solos than Chuck Schuldiner. Maybe Marty Friedman on some songs or Dimebag Darrell.

EDIT. Out of those four I found only Covenant (if you mean The Kovenant), but they are not Death Metal, and there are no solos on those songs on their Myspace. As for the other three, I have no clue where I can find them, if there is nothing I can find in the Internet...

Um, he isn't referring to bands, he is referring to Morbid Angel albums...Blessed are the Sick, Covenant, Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, and Gateways to Annihilation. And I agree, Trey does have superior solos and that Morbid Angel > Death.

So I listened to those four albums, and the only really good solo that I heard was on the song called "Invocation to a Continual One" (which is a good song itself) of the Formulas album. Reminded me of some Marty Friedman solos on Rust and Peace. Other than that, nothing. The albums are not bad, but still not as impressive as Death's in the post-Spiritual Healing era. If you have any other cool solo you think are worth mentioning go ahead because I like that stuff.

Ktulu, if you weren't impressed with Gateways, then I got nothing. That album is my least favorite MA album (although still great), but the solos on that album are incredible. Invocation of a continual one is an excellent song and one of my favorites on Formulas, but the solos on that song sound a little different from the trademark Trey solos. If you are looking for recommendations, try Domination, I have always liked that album, although you may or may not be impressed with the solos.

Domination is indeed a very good album and his the only one I own by them (apart from some other songs I heard). BUT 1990s Death are on another planet.

Well, the solos on these songs are really not bad, but man, none of them can beat the solo let's say on "Overactive Imagination." But still many more Death solos are better (or more creative if you will) than those.

What about Angel of Disease? Pretty much half that song is soloing by Trey

@Ktulu - I don't think Chuck could have played Trey's solos at the same age. Just look how weak the soloing is on the first Death albums.

@Ktulu - I don't think Chuck could have played Trey's solos at the same age. Just look how weak the soloing is on the first Death albums.

Well, of course he could, and, in fact, Chuck was two years younger than Trey. As for the soloing on the early records, was not that bad, and it was getting better with each record. Well, I compared the solos on each bands' album in 1991 (Blessed Are The Sick vs Human). On Blessed the solos are mostly fast and kinda Slayer-like, but they lack emotion and creativity - not all of course, but overall they are way worse than those on Human, where they are just brilliant, beautiful, and clearly heard, well-executed, and just smart.

Note: I don't if all the solos on Blessed are played by Trey, but even if this was a Trey vs Chuck solos battle, Chuck would win.

So that's my opinion.

And by the way, talking about solos, Obituary's release Cause of Death totally kicks ass at solos. That's FYI if you haven't heard it.

LOL my bad...I've been getting fucked up a lot this week Terrance vs Trey? Well, Trey is pretty much my number one death metal soloist, so I'll go with him.

On topic - I'm still a little high on pills so I can't remember what I said was my favorite death metal band, but it's definitely Dying Fetus. That will probably never change. Morbid Angel is second, and Suffocation is third.
