A great death band in my opinion. Great growls, and wow, that woman sounds so amazing!

dude but it is gonna bee with Chris back in the band!!! unless you've seen them with him still in the band? i saw them twice but without him so that's why i'm gonna go to the next show,, although i really hate Dragonforce, don't give a crap about Shadows fall, seen trivium already and was like meh.. and seen machine head in june (was awesome though for MH) so i just have to sacrifice the booze money for mighty AE \m/

I've decided not to go to AE's next show here. I've already seen them once (killer of course) and at the same show there's 4 other bands which I've already seen and/or don't give a crap about! I need the money for something else instead (like booze...).

You freaking swedes, i swear... You have a chance to see Arch Enemy live and you pass it??? Do you realise that i live in Africa and AE will never ever tour here so i'll never ever see them live??? Gosh!!
But then, i must say, the flavourful aroma of the smooth-sippin' "Jack" is quite alluring... Hmmm

Oh, man, this new Arch Enemy disc... what a killer CD! It's got all the classic Arch Enemy riffs and solos, Angela's vocals are as tight as they'll ever get, and the drumming is as effective as the best Arch Enemy songs. It's much more inspired than their previous CD from 2005... the Amott's just seem to be reinvigorated with energy here. I'm not saying AE is breaking any new ground in a sense, but instead bringing a new flavor of intensity and melody to their already deep catalog. And for the first time since Wages Of Sin, the CD rocks like all hell from start to finish!

I didn't bother to see them live as they were on one of those 4-5 band tours here in the US in which I could care less about any other band and am not paying all that money just to see a 45 minute set, but I'm hoping they return on a real headlining tour. The 2 times I've seen them with Angela on vox were both great, and now with some great new tracks, I think it's worth revisiting their live set

My choice for favorite tracks are "The Last Enemy" and "In This Shallow Grave" so far...

I can't wait to get my copy. I ordered it directly from CM Distro- with a t-shirt. And for only $16 dollars. Oh my damn, I love ordering direct from distributors. People are so far saying good things, so I'm excited. At least, Dismaleuphony is saying good things.

I won't probably check out the new album in a long time. IMO this band is getting more boring and boring, don't think that they're so original and interesting as I used too. And I'm a spoiled Swede too... won't be going to their next concert here. Why? They'll come soon again.

Haaah, Arch Enemy are what got me into metal. Or, at least listening to more of it. Ravenous was a pretty cool tune back then.

Though, then I heard Carcass, and was like . . . "WTFMICHAELAMOTT."

So, that's really the only good thing about Arch Enemy to me, now. lol.

On only one listen, I think that the new album is mediocre. Yeah, some parts are pretty fast and it is one of their more consistent albums of the Angela era, but fuck I'm getting so tired of their inability to write a decent chorus. Most of their songs start out with good opening verses, but as usual, they fucking slow down the chorus. It's just becoming predictable for me. No song really stands out like they used to, but then again, there isn't really a bad song on Rise of the Tyrant, with exception to some boringly average tracks.

This is the first Arch Enemy album where I actually got tired of Angela's voice; I always defend her when people say negative things about her. Some people say stupid things such as that she was only picked because she's a woman, her voice is too weak or too generic, etc. Her constant mid-range growls got on my nerves at times during the album, and there are parts on it where it would have sounded much better if she tried growling high or low. She said in an interview that this is her first album where they didn't layer the vocals using Pro Tools, so she does sound a little more organic, but with a little less power.

This isn't a bad album by any means though. I sound a little negative here, but it does have some enjoyable moments. Unlike the last couple of Arch Enemy albums, this one doesn't have any filler, thank god. I think that most people will like it, but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed.

The booklet is pretty

I agree that this album is utterly mediocre. It never, at any point, steps over into the boundaries of good or bad, just plain... plain. The reason for this is that the album is completely saccahrine sweet. Just a bunch of guitar wankery built around unimaginative and unoriginal songs. Not one of the songs stands out on this album, they all follow the same formula pretty much and rarely deviate from what is Trivium like obviousness.

When I got hold of this I listened to it through about 3 times thinking it was actually ok, but that was a month ago and I've not gone back to it since. When I tried I just had the feeling that I'd gotten everything this album has to offer in those 3 listens.

You can't fault Amott's geetar skills, just his creation of the riffs. He's still one of my favourite guitar players but I'm dissapointed at how little effort he put into this album. I guess it's a small mercy that most (though not all) of Gossow's horrid vocal effects have gone. She still doesn't sound completely natural though.

A stadium album. Nothing more.

Well, so far I listened to the new album twice and I didn't want to listen to it again. Unlike fadman I think this is very far from being one of the greatest abkums for arch enemy, on the contrary. It disappointed me and I'm so sad. No, really, because I think they are a talented band and have done great in the past, they seem to have blew it here. I hope this is just a bad record. Even lyric wise I think they are repeatin themselves too much. Maybe it is because their popularity is increasing who knows.

I wish I will have a different opinion the next time I actually pick up the cd, that would mean my band is still kicking ass. Maybe it'll grow on me. Maybe I will feel something next time I listen to it. I sure hope so. Its sad that the thing I loved the most about the new album was the bonus DVD with songs from the past...

i love Arch Enemy all the way, but i still like the old stuff more than the new one that just came out, it did lack just a little dynamics. Wages of sin is still the best so for on my list.

I've heard the new album about twice or so...and I think that way as well. I felt that Doomsday Machine was just slower, and more one dimensional then Rise of the Tyrant. Maybe its because the new album reminded me of the thrash paced riffs and layered guitar qualities that I originally heard Arch Enemy with. I haven't completely digested the new album, but this is what I think so far.

Slower isnt necessarily less heavier. But I understand that songs like "carry the cross" and "my apocalypse" may not please some but I still think they even those are more inspired than most songs in "rise of the tyrant". Even the instrumental pieces in doomsday are amazing, just listen to those melodies. And those melodies are not as predictable as the ones we have in "rise". What do you mean by one dimensional in doomsday?
I always felt that they had more thrash in them than anything else but thats just me (and one friend of mine also I might add lol)
But as you, I'm also still digesting the album although I listened to it like 8 times now. It's still not clear to me.

I agree with you on the slower part, but I guess its just a matter of taste, I was never much for slow passages in this genre of metal anyways. They definetly have thrash in them though, but I also see heavy metal influenced riffs and solos here and there. I meant one dimensional in relative to layered guitar leads that this band is well known for, it just didn't stand out for me on Doomsday Machine. Those are good instrumentals though...

So we agree on a few things
I also think that in the end it all comes down to personal taste indeed. Speaking of heavy metal influences, that friend of mine that thinks they have very thrashy riffs also thinks that they are very influenced by Megadeth in general, do you agree? I cant really tell cuz I only have 3 megadeth albums and I haven't thought about it seriously anyway.
