2008 U.S. Presidential Election

With much pontificating on whether to even start this one, (due to the anticipation of a major headache), I present to you the official thread of the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. I am just too damn interested in seeing what everyone (U.S. and non-U.S. citizens alike) thinks. I would like for all of us to approach this in an atypical matter. DO NOT discuss petty issues that are discussed every day by various media outlets. (Abortion, Same-Sex Marriage, Etc.) Such issues have been presented to us with intent to take our minds off of things that are actually important.
Feel free to grace us with your opinions of the Political Candidates, Political Debates, Important Issues such as solutions for Iraq, The role that the U.S. will play in the world, Etc. Try also not to look only 4 years into the future...that is what has gotten the U.S. into so much trouble in the past...
Go 'lite' on posting or quoting tons of links to other sights. Everything should come from yourself...and please keep the personal insults to a minimum...we all (hopefully) have the same goal to make the world a better place. Unfortunately that peace is currently being halted by greedy politicians. Remember to keep the big question in mind: What political figure would be the best for the entire Global community and why? Go at it fools!

Obama is sweet, and he's gonna win no doubt. I need to find people to bet money on the toss-up states. Joe Biden asked "Is that a joke?" when asked about Obama being socialist! hahah! what a smart ass That's EXACTLY what I would have said, he is GOD hahhahahahah!! Socialism, my country is socialist, so is most of Western Europe, who gives a fuck if he is or not?

It has gotten to the point that most people just ASSUME socialism is bad without knowing anything about it and refuse to hear more of it. This attitude makes it quite hard to have a serious, respectful conversation concerning it. NO political ideology should EVER become a dirty word. It is a huge impediment to honest discussion.

It's nothign to get a 'hard-on' about. But ummm I think 'National Socialism' is dirty cuz it causes potential damage to others.

Both are good politics with clearly a different opinion than mine. That is ok. The elcttions are fights against two persons and against two ideologies. No more, not a fight between good or evil or two evils. For us in Europe it is not so mcuh a big deal. The us president is not the mightiest man on earth, so, who cares?

In my eyes, if Obama becomes president we will just be that much worse off. Also what about the good of our military? Or his Anti-Military/War positions? To me this just seems like no contest, but I guess america needs "change." Change isnt necessarily for the better.

Has anyone noticed the unintentional symbolism between these 2 guys? mccain is a rusty old white dude leaning to the right wing(conservatism), and obama is the younger half-black guy leaning more towards the left wing(liberalism).

Account deleted Written by -Soulreaper- on 04.11.2008 at 23:10 You think McCain would be better on the economy then Obama? Wow...first of all the last time you guys had a democrat your economy was in prosperity; then all you conservatives got the bright idea to vote bush, TWICE, and messed up your own country with two useless wars which spawned more terrorists then they killed, through the fear of terrorism they took away your rights with the Patriot Act and other such laws, and last but not least they topped the ice cream with a cherry in the form of useless spending and increasing the trade defecit. Secondly, Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to help the worse off in America, he's against N.A.F.T.A. which is outsourcing jobs, his tax plan (despite what McCain wants you to think) would benefit most Americans, he supports unions which are continuelly getting screwed over by your beloved conservatives, he's against businesses outsourcing jobs and my favourite thing about him...he's against lobbyest which shows that at least he's not as bought out as most politicians. I'm not saying he's perfect, I for one would like Ralph Nader (Independant) to win, but when you actually look at his policies they're far better then McCain's; who knows squat about the economy, only has experience in terms of being corrupt, and only cares about big businesses and the elites of the world. Plus Sarah Palin is the next generation bush-puppet. She's an idiot who the Republicans put up as a figure head because she can relate to the base.

And in the back-up position? Surely in these aspects you wouldn't consider Palin more sensible than Biden?

The country can do me a favor and set up universal healthcare so my mother can stop getting robbed by pharmaceutical corporations for her necessary diabetic supplies... I doubt Obama will do this, but I can dream. I just have the crazy belief that my tax money should be spent improving MY country. And come on guys... take it in stride, don't be sore losers. It can't be worse than the last 8 years under King Bush. Even Cons have to acknowledge he was a giant douche. A turd sandwich is slightly better

05.11.2008 - 14:44 Written by Introspekrieg on 05.11.2008 at 07:54 I doubt as well that Obama shall make the USA a social welfare state, an European alike state. In fact, the big problem about US politics is that their campaigns are financed, for the most part, by the private sector, so during their mandate US presidents have to return their favours to their tycoon friends who only look after their own good. Furthermore, Obama's campaign was entirely paid by private corporations because he refused to invest public funds during this harsh financial crisis. I do not know why is there such a big hype about a mulatto having been elected the president of the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world due to the fact that we are talking about the USA and its corrupted system. Obama is just a popular figurehead, yet another marionette of private corporations and lobbies which are the true rulers in the USA. Do you people actually think that Bush has made all decisions during these last 8 years all by himself, as if he had been a Roman emperor? Do you think he was the one who fabricated the story about WMDs in Iraq, or who decided to invade Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks, or the only responsible person for the collapse of capitalism after the current crisis, or the one who allows millions of American citizens living in poverty? Absolutely not. The ones who have been running (and ruining) the USA and the rest of the world were Bush's associates and right-wing lobbies. Obama will just be another puppet to be shown on TV, but it's a fact that the whole world was upset with American violent, anti-social politics, throwing millions and millions of resources to slaughter innocent people while letting their citizens lose their jobs and the whole world economy going to disaster. I hope Obama's new oligocracy shall not repeat right-wing errors, avoid wars, negotiate with other nations for military denuclearization, and slowly start making the USA a social welfare state. You US Americans have suffered a lot and deserve a better country.

Well actually, for the 2 terms that Bush was in office the majority of congress was Republican, so a lot of the bills that Bush wanted to get passed did do so very fast, that is why we went to war, and that is why a lot of his ideas were passed by congress, on November 4th, tides changed in the congress, and many congress men lost their seats, and were replaced by Democrtats along with our president, so who knows, if Obama does have some really good ideas they will pass.

Plus look at history: Jesus, Jewish philosopher that preached equality - murdered 26-36 AD Abraham Lincoln, sympathized with blacks - murdered April 14, 1865 Gandhi, political and spiritual leader of non-violence, equal rights - murdered 30 January 1948 John F. Kennedy, Democrat, historically first Catholic President - murdered November 22, 1963 Martin Luther King, Jr, leading activist in the civil rights movement - murdered April 4, 1968 John Lennon, peace activist - murdered 8 December 1980 Ronald Reagan - wounded Barack Obama, Democrat, historically first black President-ELECT....

Sweet - Obama is going to try to close down Guantanamo Bay. Anyways, I was out with my friend and the bars in downtown Seattle last night and people were running through the streets screaming OOBBAAAAAMMMAAAAAA. It was fucking awesome - every bar had the TV's blasting the speech and some people were holding microphones up to the TV's so that the sound was blasting through the streets. I was happy Oh, and has anyone noticed that gas has gone down over $1 per gallon at the end of Bush's term? Anyone find that odd?? LOLOL

06.11.2008 - 01:36 Written by [user id=5630] on 05.11.2008 at 23:20 Not necessarily. People in the government throughout George W. Bush's reign were most likely making extra money on the side as a result of America's oil heist, if you will. If Obama does what he says, then those same corrupt people won't be making too much money, thus leading to them not being too happy, and ultimately leading to someone offing Obama, the poor lad. I really hope Obama lasts, though (if he does what he says, that is). I really believe he can change so much. I am so happy and proud of the American people, as yesterday showed that this lame racial barrier that's been around for so long is finally diminishing. It makes me really happy and have butterflies.

My co-worker said that in his area people were tooting their horns at 11PM in celebration!! you'd SWEAR it was OUR election! haha
