Watch out, this is a masterpiece! Queensrÿche has always been able to stay away from this simplistic heavy hard rock trend rotten by some spoiled dick-heads with their traditional clichés and their shallow lyrics like 'Baby, I feel so alone!'. On the contrary, this band, far from collapsing into a disguting laziness, wrote some complex and well-structured songs and intellectual and extremely worked on lyrics. In fact, Queensrÿche is a real warmachine destined to fight against the establishment. This is confirmed by 'Operation: Mindcrime' which is at the same time ultra-polished and accessible to the masses.

Perfect work. Its one of the best concept albums ever written. Breaking the silence, revolution calling and the title track belong to the best heavy metal songs.

Awesome stuff, too bad they became shit after Promised Land. But at least they were able to give us this shining gem of an album before they stopped giving a crap. Eyes of A Stranger is an incredible closer, it sends shivers.

Operation: Mediocre !

Its overrated as it probably makes metalheads feel intellectual for once, but its not mediocre or average.

IMO the concept is impressive, just the album doesn't work for me musically. Only the title track is what I listen from this album.

A timeless album, untarnished by both the passage of time and the impressive series of abysmal albums starting with Hear the New Frontier.
Such a shame they didn't manage to keep the visionary momentum after Promised Land.

Fun and one of the few metal albums I have come across with some well written lyrics. If you are yet to listen to this make it a priority.

You are not metal enough until you visit Kenya. The cradle of mankind, where man learnt first to work with stones and first enjoyed the sounds produced by banging stones which later influenced metal in all its sounds and genres.

The best metal album ever. The machine-gun drum sound is completely awesome. The lyrics and guitar work is outstanding. And of course, the vocals are arguably the best in metal history.

Owned since new but personally I think it sounds terribly dated and it's always been a bit self-important.

Same here - bought this on vinyl with my paper round money when it first came out and played it into oblivion (I was only 14!). You're entitled to your opinion but this is - for me - a complete classic. It's funny, if you tread the same ground you're labelled unambitious; if you go for it and create a unique concept you're 'self-important' or pretentious.

I'm revisiting their entire back-catalogue today - rather than being dated, I reckon their 80s output is brilliant and stands the test of time.
