If you want to listen to an orchestra of drills, jackhammers and chainsaws with a grunting pig in the foreground, this is not an album for you. If you want a sterile surgery room sound that's soulless, completely flat and devoid of any feeling, colour or emotion, this is not an album for you. In other words, if you're a fan of "brutal" (notice the parentheses) death metal, Asphyx might not be the best thing to spend your allowance money on. (I put "brutal" in inverted commas because that ridiculous subgenre of metal is everything but brutal. Believe me, after a whole summer day spent in army boots my stinking socks are much more brutal and violent.)

Screw all your tech death bullshit fretboard wankers who forgot what death metal is and only churn out chaotic assemblies of soulless hogwash mistakenly called music. Asphyx is the shit, ladies and gentlemen. Let Deathhammer pulverize you.

Hahaha Marcel wtf ! I take it from this that you don't appreciate Ulcerate, Metochondrian, .... etc ?

Mitochondrion is great, Ulcerate okay, nothing more. Btw those lyrics don't refer to that sort of death metal but to polished brutal death and current Morbid Angel

except for the couple of technoi tracks (and of course the remixes album) it is death metal, but very stale death metal at that

Yeah, yuck !
Old Morbid Angel and the whole OSDM is something I ignored for too long if Deathhammer is a testament of what this genre is I guess I have a lot of stuff to go into

Haven't listened to straight up death metal in awhile, I have to say this is excellent. Deathhammer is one of those tracks I just keep on repeat. It's not excellent, as in a 9 rating, but excellent for a change of pace. Some of the tracks fall off, for me, or I would give it more than a 7. Kneel, you dogs.

I am with you.

The drum was set too much in the foreground, almost the same level as vocals. You hardly could listen to them at the same time....drum ? vocals ? or....guitars ? (I think you can really give up listening guitars, unless you grow two more ears).

A very distractive album. I really had placed a High Hope before it was released.

I am wondering what srt of inferior rip you guys are listening to because that certainly isn't the case with the original cd and the vinyl.

The production is superb, the doom sections are actually effective unlike some of the 90s Asphyx albums where they were not so powerful.

Great example of old school death metal. I think I like it even more than "Death... The Brutal Way". It's nice how they smartly alternate the fast death metal numbers with slower doom/death songs.
My personal favourites are the title track, "Reign of the Brute" and "Der Landser".
