I like this kind of music. Melancholic and sad, yet always pleasing.

Could you put little descriptions to albums? It would be quite useful.

No need, they're all awesome. If you're even vaguely interested in Blackgaze, check everything on the list.

Heard Alcest and kinda liked it, then heard the vaguely same-y but better Les Discrets, and then heard the Old Silver Key and thought it's just too much of the same... but kudos to Les Discrets for not having a completely identical black metal sequence repeated five times on the album. I'm actually looking for something a bit different than that, but not too black metal either as I don't really listen to it

Not too black? Hmm, in that case, I recommend (from the list) Shyy, Dopamine, Heretoir and Fen, mostly. Video rape time:

Nothing to do with black metal, post-rock or post-punk. Or metal.

I'll play the Devil's advocate here and suggest this is a good list highlighting how pansy-ass and girly "black" metal has become. There's really nothing black about the majority of these bands.

Definitely. I've noticed especially after going on a '90s kick (in regards to black metal) how diluted it's becoming.

Thankfully bands like Arckanum are still kicking around.

Meh I dunno, all the Alcest albums until their latest sound very different from each other to me and it's not so hard to point out the differences.
Only their latest was *puts sunglasses on* le lame and samey all the time.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Looking at your post about suggestions. You can check out Amesouers if you haven't already, sometimes it's flat out pop.
Nice list featuring some of the less samey bands like Have A Nice Life, Alrakis...

I've heard Ast, but I don't think it really fits in this list IMO. How does Anarchic differ from it?

I don't really understand what you meant here... Could you please explain? Which album fits? Do you agree that Ast doesn't (If you didn't mean Ast)?

In list title: " atmo black" and other genres
Skagos: "atmo black"

I don't know if she wants her list to be a "best of" or an encyclopedia, but since she put Skagos in it (and replied positively to my suggestion), I guess she agrees with me on this one ^^

I apologize for the inconvenience but I felt that the list is more towards the "shogaze post stuff" rather than the more normal atmospheric black metal stuff, like Skagos.

Some recs:
Alda - :Tahoma:
Cascadian atmospheric black metal from the USA. Evokes a "natural atmosphere" not so different from Skagos.
Altar Of Plagues - White Tomb
Atmospheric black metal from Ireland infused with sludge and post-rock elements. Solid stuff.
Ash Borer - Ash Borer
Normal atmospheric black metal that is darker than most of the albums in your list. However, it really conjures a gloomy soundscape.
Austere - To Lay Like Old Ashes
Atmospheric/Depressive black metal. Former band of Woods Of Desolation members.
ColdWorld - Melancholie
Surprised not to see them here. German atmospheric black metal with shoegaze elements and use of violins.
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
An atmospheric black metal gem. Most of their other stuff has folky elements, but Autumn Aurora is one of the strongest Atmo BM albums ever written. Epic stuff.
Fell Voices - Fell Voices
Great drone-ish atmospheric black metal.
Sun Of The Blind - Skullreader
If you liked Alrakis's style of crushing "cosmic" BM, then you'll definitely like this.
Walknut - Graveforests And Their Shadows
Harsher than most of the other bands here, and they are somehow influenced by Burzum. However, Graveforests is saturated with majestic emotions and atmospheres.
Hope you like them.
