Metal Storm Awards 2011 - Now Open!

Metalstormers, the time is here once more.

The Metal Storm Awards 2011 are now open!

Throughout January we have been painstakingly working to provide you with a run-down of our nominations for what we feel are the best albums of 2011. It is now your job to check out the cream of the crop, and vote for your favourites.

This is the eighth year of the Metal Storm Awards, and as always you have the month of February to cast your judgement. This year however, we have introduced a couple of new categories; Melodic Black and Djent/Math metal, and also split up a few of the categories that were coupled in previous years.

Don't forget to share this news with your friends, or even start your own campaign over the internet for your favourite bands to win. We have done the hard work bringing you these nominations, now let's have some fun. Useful banners and buttons can be found here.

Results will be announced on the 1st March!

Actually, there's a few. But I've only been vocal about one. So far.

Okay, which are the others? I am just wondering. At times I am not happy with some classifications here on MS either

Tarot vs Symphonia).

I don't think Tarot's latest counts, since it was a re-recording of SOI anyway, as changed as the songs may be... also, you like Symphonia over Strato's latest, which makes you the first person I've met who sides with Tolkki

Edit: Oh, and Dave Grohl had this to say about winning the award..."I feel so bad for the Dream Theater guy, because they actually had a metal performance, we didn't..."

You guys[psko!) have taken enough rounds on Dave Grohl?!! eh?! anyways, standing on a "ever-plastic" stupid Grammy's podium...he was really proud of it that his new album was made in a garage. After all, their producer is a old Nirvana man...and grunge stuff hasn't faded yet...he should thank Kurt Cobain for this. But now, they are Grammy winner...they can whine about anyone.

Havn't got any Stratovarius and I found Symphonia in the shops (unlike Stratovarius).
Tarot are still elegable though, right?

Well, it kinda doesn't make sense to vote for a remake for a best NEW album... they are different but those are still the same songs as they were on the original Spell Of Iron

I noticed like only 15 people have Dirge Elysian Magnetic Fields. There are over 600 votes in the post-metal catagory. The odds aren't in favor for my FAVORITE album of 2011

if an unknown, i agree. i routinely cast my vote for bands that end up in the 7-10 slot once results are published. i've cast 9 votes, of which i think two might/should win, a couple will finish middle of the pack, and most at the tail-end.

i can see getting "upset" if some lame band wins because of a name over a far more deserving band thanks to a massive last minute push or something. but for the most part the results are obvious and inevitable.

I'm only expecting one of my votes to win (chthonic). Thought Fleshgod Apocalypse might untill I saw Vader in the nominees.

Well, out of 30 votes..if my 7 votes are considered to be a winner...then probably i will jump from houses to houses in a nerdy celebration that alteast i thought of something winning out of my exact votes. Not like a bitch sitting on a softy bed crying/ whining that i casted my vote in this and fuck! it doesn't come out as a winner. Totally shit.

But by that logic (albeit a streching of it) Northern Kings would never be eligable because they have no original songs. Spell Of Iron MMXI was a studio album of new recordings and is listed as a proper album here, so I'll assume it's elegable unless someone can find the rule that disqualifies it. I'm still not sure which to vote for, but I'm leaning towards Tarot (In Paradisia is just so purple! The cover looks like something from Prince.)

And can someone remind me a day or two before voting closes to cast my doom vote. (Omit's Repose and Ixion's To The Viod). I may have to toss a coin on this one.

Damn, we need more subdivisions in death metal this year. I'm in a real struggle.
We 've got the doomy death releases from Sonne Adam, Cianide, Vallenfyre, Necros Christos etc...
We've got the more technicals: Benighted, Origin, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Obscura etc...
The old schools: Disma, Miasmal, Morbus Chron, Bastard Priest etc...
The casuals: Vader, Demonical, Vomitory, Hate Eternal etc...
The blackened ones: Azarath, Belphegor, Panzerchrist etc...
The specials: The Rotted, Ouroboros, Ulcerate, Mitochondrion etc...
I can't choose between subgenres, let alone between bands.

Does biggest letdown have to be an album?
Oh, and somehow Lacuna Coil's new album has been nominated in both biggest letdown and biggest surprise.

Letdown doesn't have to be an album.

And it is possible that f.e. gets nominated in biggest letdwon and biggest surprise. One person't letdwon might be another's surprise. And tbh surprise doesn't always have to be positive.

I mean Dark Adrenaline was released this year. So it shouldn't be in the 2011 awards. At least two idiots don't know that the year changed a month and a half ago.
(if the letdown or suprise was it not being released last year, then I retract the idiot comment.)

Man, the moment i came to know that Lou is collaborating with Metallica...instantly i came to know it gonna be weak record/ crappy slow Rock record. I think when they announced the title "Lulu" only few days after their first track was on internet. Anyways, LULU can be awarded in"Record never made" crap.

I never listened to Lou Reed before this colaboration, but I already knew him, of course. That's why I didn't expected nothing out of this world.

In the final, I was wrong...

At first I expected something at least enjoyable from Metallica... Maybe another Load or Reload.

BUT I SUCKS!

So I voted Lulu for the biggest letdow. I don't have a album to put under Biggest Surprise yet... Nothing this year was a great surprise (for me).
