It would seem doom metal and its subgenres are not for you, then.
Look at his favourite bands and it is quite safe to say that doom metal and all its subgenres isn't for him
I think that you say...it's probably true!!!
Hahahahahaha!!! Doom...sounds boring! XD
Compared with other genres!

It's good, but their is no breakthrough really , and some of the riffs here felt like deja vu to me , it's 6.5 to me.

I'm not usually a funeral doom fan, but this was purely amazing. My favorite tracks were Descent Into Chaotic Dreams and Grim Eloquence. Kudos! I'm definitely going to check out their whole discography.

I've been on a massive Evoken kick, pretty much all I've been listening to last week or two (other than the odd Esoteric / Ophis album). Every release is fantastic, even their Promo albums are worth finding.

They're MUCH easier to get into than the massive Esoteric.

Their albums are easier to listen to yes. At first I enjoyed their music, but didn't love it. Then I really sat down with their discography. It's remarkable what they've done over the past 20 years.

Promo albums are the promo versions of regular album which the record companies send around for reviews prior to the release date

Well they're named Promo 1996, Promo 1997 and Promo 2002 on the site here. That's why I referred to them as the "promo" albums.

Is anyone else having a problem with the production on this album? There are several people on Evoken's facebook page whining about the album having a "loudness war" or being too "compressed". Now I'm no sound tech or sound mixing master or whatever, so all I use are my own two ears, but I think the album sounds great (I've listened to it on various devices / headphones too).
Just wanted to see what other people thought who enjoyed the album or didn't because of this ... "problem". It sounds like the band is talking about re-mastering and re-releasing, so I'm curious if people are over-reacting.
Its awful actually....its my biggest gripe about the album...whoever mastered this butchered it...

I only noticed the "loudness" problem when I had it turned up quite a bit. Once I turned it down it was fine for me. But then again, the problem shouldn't exist in the first place.

Should be considered one of their best albums. Waiting for the review to make things clear!

I haven't heard any of the sound issues mentioned here. I played the album in my car today and it sounded like a beast.

There are a lot of boring doom bands (mainly the funeral, drone, or stoner variety), but Evoken is surely NOT boring.

While I have known about Evoken for quite some time, it was not until just recently that I took the time to actually listen to their music properly. This is something that I definitively do not regret as all of the albums I have checked out so far have been really great and Atra Mors is no exception. Come to think of it, it is probably my favorite of the bunch.
One of the main strenghts of this album in my opinion is the more dynamic sound overall comapred to previous offerings. The slightly more prevalent keyboard and cello as well as the interludes are a welcomed touch amidst the immense wall of suffering and despair. As a whole, this creates a truly dense and crushing atmosphere that I simply can't get enough of.

Must say I'm still not completely sold on this band or album. They're the definition of consistency, and I certainly appreciate how this album is both solid and dynamic. But compared to some of the other extreme doom albums this year (Faal, Profetus and Monolithe especially) there's that certain something missing. A feeling, an atmosphere, not sure what it is.

Absolutely love this album, but its a shame, I really hate the production. It sounds much worse than their previous albums. It's real boomy, and unnatural sounding, especially in the drums. It actually ruins the flow of the album for me alot of the time. But other than that, the music is fantastic
