Rarely does an album place you in the exact environment which its creators would have you experience. Even rarer, in my experience, is when such is achieved within the wide reaching scope of post-metal; albums can be loose in their effort to engage the listener and they tend to be vague in their atmospheric axis points. The lines of latitude are often blurred and while an atmosphere is usually present it can be an altogether indifferent experience as you fail to identify your location. Yet listening to Cult Of Luna's latest release Vertikal you'll likely be more the wiser about your surroundings.
Yep, this is quite a brilliant record. CoL have mastered a genre which can often be very boring with dynamic, varied and interesting songs. Once again they're without peer in their area of music.

Neurosis definitely let me down with the latest. Too safe... So atm I only see this band standing up. Hopefully Neurosis will get their shit together and make a better album so I can at least say that I enjoy more than just one band from this almost-dead genre. I give them the benefit of doubt since this is the first time I feel meh about their material.

Yeah I felt the same about the recent Neurosis. It was very meh, but still seemed to appear on every end-of-year list out there. I think you'll like this record. Each song seems to have an usual effect or texture, or an uncharacteristic melodic lead that really feels fresh for the band, and even genre.

Have to agree with you, 2013's only just begun and I've listened to some great albums (this included)
Low and Cult of Luna is a great way to start the year. On first listen, I'm quite happy with this album. Theirs have always been growers for me, so no doubt it'll end up towards the top of my year-end list. Almost want to drop my 2012 albums and move on to this full-time.
A truly great album. I liked the variation in the songs. I haven't seen the movie that the album is inspired by, but I definitely got a science fiction vibe from it.
What in the world....? This is really amazing! and I thought they couldn't do anything darker than "Eternal Kingdom". They've totally outdone themselves.
Exactly! It Is my favorite ,, and the album is really good
COL is the Ultimate sludge weapon

Stab me with hate
Enforce my fate
Pain's my belonging
To death I am longing
The death I desire
The dead I admire
See no more illusion
Just thy persecution
So finish your work
Stab me with fork
Torture with knife
End useless life
Slit all my wrists
It was noise. It's so awkward that "Noise" can be recorded and is being released. Why people waste their money on such a kind of stuff. You may buy a broken mincer and stick your ear to it. I bet it has more desirable sound than "Cult of Luna" !!
