Just scrolling through the list, it would be consistent if by greatest you mean most publicized/well-known. There are several vocalists there who don't possess any talent imho (e.g. Anders Friden, Angela Gossow, Chuck Schuldiner, James Hetfield). That's not to say I believe they are bad vocalists, I just think their performances are pretty average. I don't mean to offend but I'm very picky when it comes to vocalists

By the term "greatest vocalists", I mean those who not only possess a voice with various capabilities, but also have been an influence for many other singers. I don't expect everyone to agree with the choices I have made, but it's one thing to say "I don't like James Hetfield's voice", and another one to say "James Hetfield has no talent as a vocalist" without any argument to back it up.

I think you might be getting the wrong notion here. I love Hetfield's vocal style, however it is anything but phenomenal. Your list seems much more coherent now that I understand what you were attempting

I guess we're simply doing different things; I'm attempting to keep this list as concise as possible.

Haha cheers man, I'll have a look when I find the time. Last few weeks have been truly hectic, the list isn't even complete yet Also I guess the list is limited to vocalists I've been exposed to and I have an affinity for prog so that's what most of the list is comprised of. I'm more than happy to check out other bands though. Sometimes the music gets in the way of me enjoying vocalists' talents, but we shall see

This band called devil doll had very unique and strong vocalist. Just give it a chance. I am not sure if you would like them since they were really sth different but the vocal work is totally out of this word.
Also, agalloch and acid bath have (or had) very strong vocalist IMO.

One of the best lists I've seen on this site. The only people I would suggest are Warrel Dane (who I believe has been mentioned), and perhaps Mario Duplantier of Gojira.

Yeah, you might get more than you bargained for if you had a man-crush on Halford. Still, I'd have him in my list - great metal vocalist. I'd also have Bruce Dickinson and definitely Ronnie James Dio.

While he has soothing cleans and decent screams, I don't think that John Haughm is particularly talented. However, if you could PM me or post here a link where those other bands' vocalists exhibit the capabilities, then I'd be willing to put them on. I don't know enough about those vocalists let alone the bands to find that particular song.

I wouldn't know if you've listened to them that much, but Jason Mendonca (Akercocke) is, in my opinion, by far one of the most talented and versatile vocalists in metal. Definitely needs to be any top metal vocalists list.

Shit man, he's a decent vocalist overall but I found MA's vocals on Watershed straight up annoying at times, he did that throaty rotund black woman on American idol thing and I would say theres definitely some better Opeth albums vocals wise.

I'd say Watershed was the peak of his versatility. Excluding growls, he's gotten even better on Heritage but since there's no growls I put one from Watershed to showcase what he can pull off. As far as I'm aware you're the only one with that opinion

maybe I am the only one with that opinion haha. but that album I don't know to me just had some real annoying stuff on it. I would say Ghost Reveries is probably the best vocal wise, even blackwater park which is largely boring I liked better than Watershed. also he did some good stuff with Bloodbath miles ahead of watershed.
