Ensiferum - Nearing Completion On Recording New Album

Ensiferum have been locked away in Astia Studio in Lappeenranta in Finland with producer Anssi Kippo for three weeks. Drums, bass and most of the guitar parts have been recorded for their new album which is tentatively scheduled for release worldwide on Metal Blade Records in early 2015. At the end of last week, guest musician Timo Väänänen tracked some takes with his kantele (see below), and over the weekend, vocalist Petri Lindroos began tracking vocals. It's almost done.

Bassist Sami Hinkka updates: "Hi folks! For last few days, Mahi and Pete have sweated their asses off while recording guitars. Songs sound, like our friends in UK would say, 'bloody awesome'! Today (Friday, September 26) we recorded kantele and some special guitar tracks. Tomorrow it's time to set up a microphone and start to record vocals. Things are proceeding as planned."

Time to record some kantele. Timo Väänänen in da house!

This better be the best fucking album in their entire career though I highly doubt it.

Unsung Heroes was okay, but they can do a lot better, I just hope they learned from that album not to make a repeat. Even if this new album is as good as Victory Songs/From Afar were then I will be happy. Let's hope they don't do an In Flames and they decide to take a step forwards by going backwards.

1) Petri did great and much better when he was member of Norther rather when he became member of Ensiferum

2) Ensiferum was much better and more epic when Jari was arround

Yes, Norther's 2 first albums were great, then well...
Yes, Ensiferum's 2 first albums were great but who the fuck want's to wait 20 years for every album? And Markus was and is the main writer (you can argue how much you want, it's still true) so it wouldn't probably make that much different if Jari was there or not, it's probably for the best, let him wank on Wintersun and build a studio before the release of Time II

Surprised people are still hooked up on Jari with Ensiferum - I'm by no means a hardcore fan of the band but I thought From Afar was a pretty fine record that matched up to the first two, even if Victory Songs and Unsung Heroes were lacking.

Unsung Heroes is an album which gets better with time. True, the first few times you listen to it, it's pretty different from earlier albums, but it gets better everytime. Songs like Burning Leaves, Unsung Heroes and Pohjala are just as good, if not better than then earlier work. Therefore, I have no doubt that this album will be another awesome one.

Again, I just didn't think Unsung Heroes was THAT bad. And my favorite album from Ensiferum is Victory Songs. Next I'd say Iron. But I have to add (and this will draw ire) that Ensiferum's first was highly overhyped and overrated just like Wintersun's first album (only album for half my lifetime). Not saying they're bad albums by any means but I don't understand the acclaim each gets. I think this album will be good. I'm just not going into it with the idea that every note played is going to make me cream my . . . okay okay you get the point.
