Damn, this is a pretty delicious release. I'm kinda struggling though as to whether I should put it under blackened doom or blackened sludge on here. It's pretty ambiguous
I even feel like there's some blackened stoner in it too. At times it reminds me of a blackened Electric Wizard. Blackened sludge would probably fit them though I suspect.

I don't remember saying that. Where did that happen?
Marcel said it on that album thread. So I think I was mistaken about you saying that.

How about Regarde Les Hommes Tomber?
Oh fuck, they totally slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder, love those guys and they were pretty good at Roadburn this year too

Why not Slugdge?
Hmmm, I've only listened to Gastronomicon. Might include it here. P.S. I've got a paper to write today and drank way too much last night, so easy on the recs, killer

Yeah, it seems you pretty much nailed it with this list, even though (as you know) some of these albums aren't my cup of tea.
Also nice job on the descriptions too. You've got my +1 it seems. And thanks to your list I'm finally going to check out Faal - The Clouds are Burning. Have been meaning to check that album out for many months already but never did.

Thanks man, glad to have your approval. There's still a lot more research I need to do, one can never really discover too many albums for any style, and I haven't yet checked out all the recs I've gotten on here either, but at the moment I'm pretty pleased with how it's coming along. I really want to discover some more blackened stoner bands, that's a style that is still really underdeveloped, but I like it a lot when it's done well.

Haha, no problem. Well, so far this list doesn't seem to be lacking albums, if you ask me (since all my suggestions are now featured here).
I'm mostly interested in the blackened doom albums (good you've separated them from the blackened sludge/stoner albums). Now spinning Faal's album and I'm liking it a lot. Great stuff. What did you think of Nortt, btw? Did I exaggerate when I said how sick and bleak it is?

I wouldn't say so. It's not the bleakest album I've yet heard (I'd probably give that award to Khanate's Things Viral), but it is pretty grim and unrelenting, and the production really helps to create that vibe.
By the way, if you're interested in the blackened doom, I'd suggest the Autumnblaze and Nightly Gale albums. I know how you are about pretty, epic music, so those two will probably appeal to you.

Whatever floats your boat, man.
And obviously I know Autumnblaze already. I mean, it's a band Markus Stock is in, who is my favourite German musician (he's also from Empyrium, Noekk and The Vision Bleak, if you didn't know). Listened to that album a long time ago (well, 1-1,5 years ago) and have to say I can't really judge it now, so I'll probably check it out again soon. Nightly Gale I don't know. Will look into them (probably next week as this week I'm busy every single day except for today...).

I guess I think of them more of blackened death with some sludge in, but then that's how I think of Dragged into Sunlight and they're on here, so Slugdge would go nicely.

Wait...you think of the band who's name is a play on Sludge as a non-sludge band? I can kinda see what you mean, but still I've seen so many people regard them as blackened sludge that it'll be hard to see them as anything else. I also happen to hear quite a bit of sludge in their music...so....yeahhhh

I suppose it's more of a three way balance with Slugdge. It's kind of all three in equal measures. They have so many great melodic hooks etc. that they often don't sound sludgy at certain points. But then that's probably why they're so good as they understand how to be varied.

That's definitely a good point, the fact that it's hard to classify them in a specific way just kinda shows that they can keep their sound fresh. Given that I think we can all agree that if Che doesn't include them his list will instantly be made incomplete, and therefore shit (jkilyche)

Haha, I'll throw Gastronomicon on here for now and give it a play after work to see if it's worth keeping (probably is)

This is what makes me happy about the whole blackened sludge thing, the style's really starting to diversify in sound past the gritty, mechanical thundering of bands like Lord Mantis and Coffinworm. Ultimately I think that variety is going to be part of what adds to its popularity in coming years

I wouldn't call LSM blackened doom/sludge, I don't hear bm elements in the instruments, and even the vocals are similar to something you'd hear in an post-metal band, derived of hardcore/sludge. But I still second your recommendation because it's a phenomenal album.

Soooo Katatonia and DiS are top tier to me I'm melded to biasness for how muich I love Dance Of December. Latter I thought was younger then pescribed, they did so much musicianship to showcase the right way to portray. I don't know what I'm saying.
Blood Of The Barn Owl, listened in a field dazed and hungover at 5am was fucking perfect for what I needed on the wet, premature sunrise walk home, it was Neurogura Bunsis.
Main new highlight discovered, The Body, man they had some emotions going.
Slugdge was a really fun, pleasant way to close. Presumed perhaps Todesstoß and Abruptum may trail the fence but i's been so long since hearing either that there slow moments likily swoosh into drone. Overall thank you for making this brother.

Ooo another album to consider is Andavald's Undir Skyggðarhaldi. Never officially doom however like Dunkelheit, it's certainly doom deriviative as how it plods along and that art it's enough to make Electric Wizard weep in envy to want to make anything remotely as alluring as it's style. I wish it was longer, perfect to listen to working out in the cold outdoor moisture. That label as a whole is Cara Delevigne level attractive, even it's page ayout. Sign to relisten to Ljain this week.

I remember quite enjoying that one, it came out the same day the (phenomenal) Skaphe/Wormlust collab did, although I don't recall finding it to be that doomy. Will have to give it another listen, it's been a few months...

Me niether until I noticed how much black gets accredited for only that when it's pace is consistently walking or lower and I thought why not as genres are questioned ad infinitum with Dunkelheit coming to mind as perhaps the start of it I dunno.
