Arch Enemy - Announce Jeff Loomis As New Guitarist

Hang on to your hat! Sorry for the double Arch Enemy news today but the band just announced that guitar virtuoso Jeff Loomis (ex-Nevermore) will be joining their ranks for their upcoming European tour which kicks off on November 26th, as well as all future tours in 2015. What? Yes, it's happening apparently. The band didn't really reveal what happened with Nick Cordle and why he left.

Jeff Loomis states: "I'm very excited to be playing with Arch Enemy. Michael Amott and I have stayed in contact over the years since we toured together when I was playing in Nevermore. Not only do I admire his guitar playing and songwriting, but I also consider him a close friend. To be able to share the stage with Michael, Sharlee, Daniel and Alissa is something I'm really looking forward to. 2015 is going to be a great year... See you all on tour!"

After a great year of intensive touring in support of their new album War Eternal, Arch Enemy are parting ways with guitarist Nick Cordle who states: "With War Eternal I believe we wrote an album together which will stand the test of time, and I wish them well for the future."

USA fans will be able to catch a special reunion as Christopher Amott (the brother of Arch Enemy founder/bandleader Michael Amott) has joined the band for the remainder of their American headlining tour.

Michael Amott (guitars) comments: "We all wish Nick the very best in his new endeavors and we are sure that you will hear much more from him. We're also super grateful to my brother Christopher for stepping in to finish the current American tour!

"The prospect of working with Jeff Loomis moving forward is truly awesome! Jeff Loomis is one of the best guitar players in the metal world in my opinion, as well as being a long time friend. I look forward to tearing it up on stages around the world together as we continue on the War Eternal touring cycle throughout all next year and beyond!"

Well, now I know for sure that I'm going to Glasgow on 21st Dec... See you there! BUT... I just hope, he is just a temporary replacement for Nick in upcoming tour.

Hmmm, interesting. Might go to see them again when they are in town to check out how the band performs with Alissa and Loomis. Well, only if I see the setlist has decent amount of pre-Rise Of The Tyrant stuff.

Chris is doing the last shows of the N. American tour and he joins on the European tour. Damn, now it's even worse that they are not playing in Portugal :/

Most of the bands probably missed Portugal, didn't they? It reminds me my home... When I was there, it was almost impossible to see well-known metal bands.

Wow, that is an interesting combo. I'm conflicted, because Jeff Loomis's usual style is kinda different, but maybe this will be good for Arch Enemy. I hope Jeff will end up contributing to the songwriting down the road. They used to be one of my absolute favorites, but I haven't been interested in their new stuff at all.

Agree... Also two lead guitarists and main songwriters... How much into the songwriting process will Amott allow Loomis.

Nevertheless War Eternal was a step up from the previous albuns, and Jeff Loomis help has everything to deliver something even better

Arch Enemy needs more riffs in their song. It would seem like most of their songs are just rhythm guitars going du du du du du, then short guitar lead, then pointless jamming filling in blank spaces that accompany those sing-along verses from that hot vocalist who old geezer guy from The Misfits is currently shagging. It doesn't sound awful but for me it tends to get boring.

Their latest album only had a couple of songs I liked at the last portion of the album.

Hopefully there will be more riffs coming forward.

I kind of liked Nick's guitar solos though. I look forward to his project with those other guys, may be interesting, who knows?

I wonder if he'll stay on permanently or just play tours?

He could really reinvigorate Arch Enemy's sound if they let him write.

I rather would like to see him write next Conquering Dystopia record than write some stuff for Arch Enemy... Personally, I don't like Arch Enemy too much. It isn't my couple of tea.. too melodic.. And I kinda can't imagine Jeff Loomis style of playing mixed with Arch Enemy music...

I'm sure it's just touring, just like with Gus G. Arch Enemy is too straight forward and not enough strings for Jeff.

Even though you know its 5.5 months away from 1st April. What an idiot.

Back to the news, interesting move. Let see how Jeff fits in Arch Enemy camp. I hope Jeff gets raucous reaction from crowd.

At least this will distract me from the fact that I don't like the new vocalist. Here take Loomis to entertain yourself with

I wonder what kind of benefit he will get as a guitarist. Every Loomis project (Nevermore, Conquering Dystopia, solo project) has always been more technical and more everything than Arch Enemy. The only reason I see here is a huge increase in his bank account
