The journey these Swedes have made is without a doubt one of the more interesting ones in the modern death metal scene.

Perhaps less proggy, definitely less death metal-ly, definitely more concise. Definitely brilliant. Don't miss this gem.

"The Children of the Night takes off where The Formulas of Death ended," says Tribulation guitarist Adam Zaars. "And if the latter was dark the former is pitch black, though the album ranges from murky forests to the brightest city lights. It is a celebration of the divine spirit and our ability to tread liminal space and the changes that inevitably come with that, a hopefully subversive piece of art. The album takes Tribulation's path towards the unknown even further and we are treading in uncharted territory? join us!"

Meh. Decent riffs and original sound, but still found it highly boring.

Great great great album. Already totally hooked on it after just two listens.

Already hooked on first listen more like, there seems to be much more gothic influence in their sound. I bet you've already got this on the gold vinyl

Really enjoyed listening to this album. The Gothic influence and creepy atmosphere is a positive boon when you consider how seamlessly it sounds amidst the more extreme metal sound. In fact, the quieter moments actually remind me of "The Nefilim" era FOTN-musically that is. Highlights for me would be "Strange Gateways Beckon", "In the Dreams of the Dead" and the beautiful instrumental "Cauda Pavonis".

I'm only on the third song so far but I'm getting a really big vibe from Nachtmystium's latest album from this. Am I just retarded?

Some of the best guitar melodies I´ve heard in long time. It really reminds me of those great tunes in old games, Castlevania type.

China was a neat
Incredibly consistent, mellifluous, excellent songwriting, insanely addictive and many of the riffs here are already stuck in my head and haunting me day and night. The songs also seemlessly give way to one another, an overall brilliant record which is up there with A Forest of Stars' as one of the best so far this year.

I wonder if this'll top Marcel's year end list just as the last one did. Whether this does it or it doesn't think I'll end up liking this far better than the last one.

Looking back at that comment by the guitarist, I can't help but smile a little as I disagree completely. I can't call this pitch black. I'm too busy smiling with the uplifting leads and solos.
Great album. Keeping up the hype after The Formulas Of Death.

Surprising that they decided to take a simpler, less intense, more melodic approach on this album compared to Formulas Of Death considering how well received that was. Still, it's a solid, entertaining effort in its own right with some hooky riffs and neat solos
