Over the last decade or so, Kreator has embraced a much fuller, more melodic style that, paired with remarkably consistent material, has kept the band at the forefront of the thrash scene with such veteran grace and wisdom that it's almost impossible not to appreciate Kreator from a professional standpoint as well as a musical one.

If, during the last five years, you have been anticipating a return-to-brutal-thrash-roots Kreator album, stop reading now and don't even bother listening to Gods Of Violence. If, on the other hand, you have welcomed and enjoyed the new direction and approach that the band has taken since 2001, proceed with reading this review, my fellow metalhead. Don't be fooled by the high rating though, because this is not an encomium.

The year 2016 showed us that some old American thrash bands still have it in them. Kreator shows us that 2017 in Europe will not be worse. "Gods of Violence" is simply excellent.

I thoroughly enjoy melodic metal of all flavors, but it sounds really odd coming out of Kreator to this degree. Not sure I love this record after one listen. But hey, more power to them for evolving their sound after 30+ years.

Good lord. How can it have been that long? Time gets really bizarre the older you get, guys.

Melodic singalong poser thrash. It was a chore to get through this one

I'm having the same issues with this. Huge overuse of melody throughout. A bunch sing along choruses with noodley melodic guitarwork in the background. I do think it is ok, just not my tastes. For some reason people in general love melodic crap, this should do well. I'm happy for them, even though I don't like it. This should rope in some non thrash fans and grow their fanbase. Losing a few brutal thrash/extreme metal fans shouldn't hurt them.

Well they have totally get me for sure. I think it has a great combination of both and will be in my favorite albums of this year. Amazing album!

Some really awesome riffs on this album. While not as straight forward or brutal as their previous few albums, this one makes up for it with the guitar work and song composition. Very replayable too.

There is also something that called progress and that is what Kreator do all those years(in music and lyrics)! They don't need and never did wrote music to sell more records. Mille doesn't give a f***k about that! Kreator have already tasted success and they keep making our necks hurt from this glorious music they write! From the savage(still amazing) Endless Pain till now they are true to anything THEY want to play and I am thankful for that!
For the extreme brutal listeners you can always listen to the gigantic Pleasure to kill and if you want something similar(not enough to that though) and <<new>>, there are bands out there which are trying to copy that and a few of them succeed.
My total respect and my thanks to the Kreatoooooor!!!

Yeah, finally we got something after Phantom... which is in my opinion best Kreator recordings for years (different then all early records). Gods of Violence sounds very similar to Phantom, same music taste, similar arrangements, similar sounds and riffs. So I should be happy, but I'm not. As Phantom Antichrist was full of hit songs (aggressive but melodic) then Gods are not so good. Songs are smoother, a bit less of fire and heaviness. Sometimes I feel them like just modern Iron Maiden. Album is still very good but it is not the best from Kreator I could expect after 3 years break. Still they sound really good live on concert (been there in Warsaw 2 weeks ago)

Worse than their previous 4 by far. It has nice songs but for the first time the band has also some weak ones and also repeats itself really obviously in some parts.

I'm not sure and I don't really care to vote anyway (really disappointed with many recent releases), but I'll still keep trying to look for the "vote button" whenever I'm free, I hope that I could find that button one day

Forgive if I am being dumb but are you looking for the album vote button, that one is present at the right end of the album below the album rating 8.6 in green here, you can see the "rate" button.

And on topic, this is a great album I think eventhough it is overtly melodic at most parts. High 6 to 7 I guess would be fitting.

Thanks. I got it, it's hard to find . Nothing is wrong with melodic metal, the problem is the repetition that really showed that this band has seriously run out of ideas. Quite a boring album.

C'mon, there are too many people lover of this genre who likes the melodic stuff. Is so sad to keep seeing people understimate other people's tastes based in prejudices

Yes, in my opinion this album it's a mezcle of Jester Race and the classic thrash metal sound of Kreator
