More than twenty-five years into the game and after a tumultuous 2013 that resulted in parting ways with longtime vocalist, Tobias Sidegård, Necrophobic are back with one of the best releases in their career. The Necrogram is alive and immutable.

Overrated, more than half of the album is filler, only a couple of songs are good, but just good, not very good. Whole album lacks originality.

Very good. Not original but the energy, production and execution are very good. Better than their last couple of albums. Also the return of the original vocalist seems to be an upgrade from the previous guy.

Ah! It's "Necro-Pesta", not "Micro-Pasta".

Good package but after all, almost all good tracks in this album smell so much like the stolen great successful formula of Amon Amarth ...

Why is it labeled death metal? it is obviously melodic black.

Necrophobic has always seemed to be one of those extreme metal bands that just worked, almost as if they could do no wrong. From a foundational stance, the structure of their albums hit fans and newcomers in a way that was welcoming despite being so abrasive.

I'm not sure how they were actually received in their prime -- if they ever had such a thing considering their consistency and longevity -- but I can say this album is a streamlined yet colossal undertaking that never waivers from its outset, and the over-arching or underlying (depending on whether you're a glass half-full or half-empty kind of person) sense of oppressive melody adds so much weight to what would normally be a fairly routine black metal album.

The only real drawback here is the year of release, and I suppose for those who seek out "best tracks", this album doesn't necessarily have one. Quite simply, this album wouldn't be discussed so casually if not for it dropping in 2018. Rather, it would be regarded as one of the all-time greats, up there with early Dissection and the like. Not that ratings or revisionism matter in the grand scheme of things, I'm just trying to place this on a scale understandable to people who might be looking for that same type of quality and style in the vast sea of what the metal genre has become.

Now, it's rare for bands to age like fine wine, especially with regards to the metal genre, where stagnancy or inconsistency seem more commonplace than maturity, but this album somehow manages to blend perfectly the archaic extremity of the early days of Swedish death metal with the current rendition of melodic black metal -- bombastic and sweeping in all its glory. Despite no standout single tracks, this is a 10-piece nugget meal you'll need time to recover from devouring. A true modern classic of the genre. Fans of old school Swedish death metal will be treated to a very niche aural orgasm, but anyone even remotely interested in black and/or death metal should give this a go, if only to experience a truly enjoyable ~50 minute foray into everything Necrophobic is about.

agreed thoroughly. Am I the only one who got a chuckle when someone said Necrophobic was copying Amon Amarth, despite Necrophobic being in existence nearly half a decade before AA released their first demo?

This is an outstanding album, the tracks work great together, but it does lack that individual "killer song". Instead, the whole album is superb without a standout track

Necrophobic eat Amon Amarth for breakfast if you ask me. If there is a resemblance with another band, that band is Dissection and not AA.

The album is superb indeed. "Tsar Bomba" is the very definition of killer song.

bingo on both counts. The similarities between Necrophobic and Dissection are far moreso than Amon Amarth, who aren't fit to carry Necrophobic's jock

Somehow Tsar Bomba killed this album for me. It's such a catchy track (I could show it to my non-metal friends) that it made the rest of the album feel a bit bland to me .. And I tried a lot to like it.
