Where I live we where always one year after with everything. It probably was difficult getting albums distributed to us so 1994 was very much Icon for me.
humm, after listening to tons and tons of classical instruments going at it, i think i'm just about bored of classical music. i dont know, it doesnt really cheer me up too much. where as if i hear the same instruments being played in irish or celtic folk music, it makes me wanna dance and stuff...not that i can dance.and plus, playing irish stuff on the guitar is a whole lot more fun than classical stuff. and i think i understand why bands like Mago De Oz always seem to be high and happy, like some crazy hippies from the 70's.
so, you got any recomendations? i'm mainly looking for songs with strong violin and/or flute lines. or somthing that can easily be translated onto a guitar. dont know what i'm talking about? here's an example:

thats just a slower example. ive seen/heard a few violinist going a whole lot faster, and still sound awsome.
you know, stuff you'd imagin being playd at some irish pub with women doing those crazy ballete kinda dances, and everyone enjoying them selves. so you got anything?
another good celtic band is "Emerald Rose" they are from Georgia and play mostly folk tunes and can be pretty funny. but they are excellent none-the-less

The first is called Orthodox Celts and they used to cover traditional Irish songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88yLlmBqevQ) but later switched to writing music of their own (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wESLZemox4M). They currently have four albums out.
The other one is a bit younger band called Irish Stew Of Sindidun and they mostly write original music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNV8nD-KD1A, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W516-79JAQ0) and they're pretty cool too

Kool. And do they sing in Irish? Most Irish acts sing in English. I don't buy that very gladly. Among the best are Eithne Ni Bhraonain (Enya) and her sister Màire Ni Bhraonain (for the English-speakers Moya Brennan). (Pronunciation tip: Енjе Нi Врiнанj... people usually have no clue bout Irish pronunciation, usually people don't have even the idea that Irish language exists... usually they think that Irish/Scottish is English with an accent...)
Then again, sometimes it's good when Irish bands sing in English. Their Irish sounds so bad it's disastrous (native English speakers speaking Irish... usually sounds quite shitty).
However...
Karen Matheson is a wonderful singer from Scotland who also seems to be a native speaker of Scottish which makes her songs always sound authentic and nice. She represented France in the Eurovision song contest 1996 with a nice song in Breton.
Anuna... a reasonably grand Irish act. They have singers whose Irish sounds good... like this one... I heard that in this band they have at least some native speakers...
This song has a small documentary before it. As you can hear the bloke who speaks first has an accent which shows clearly he's not a native Irish speaker. When he shuts up, you hear native Irish.
Nice thread, apparently an oldie but goodie, I'm gonna revive the fuck out of this one.
I love Irish music
