Nice!
Thanks.
This list is probably more subject to my own review these days than my other list on the songs (you also came across).
Every other day or so I stumble over an album I have not checked yet and it happens to be so good that it makes it into my top 200. Though that doesnt happen that often any more I have to admit.
Also my list is heavily 90s biased as you may have seen.
Only very rarely I come across a recently released album that I like more than these 222 masterpieces.
And finally of course I should put a disclaimer that the differences between many of these 222 ranks are really marginal, some ranks arbitrary, because at some point you can just not tell anymore if you like one album more than another or even if it is really better than the other.

Dont wait for this to end, it will be like this forever, trust me.
(Though the degree of change in my list has clearly deteriorated over time, especially in the last say 4-5 years.)

Really only 25%...?
Well, you should definitely dig my list then dude.
About the order: As I said earlier here, I do care about the order but some ranks basically change every other day. And I would never claim that they are in a distinct order, some ranks are clearly interchangeable, naturally so I think since I bring together albums of basically all genres, which are at some point just not comparable any more.

Yeah. I'm relatively new to metal. I discovered it about two and a half years ago and have been able to quickly discover albums through YouTube and Metal Storm. I started with Judas Priest, Dio, Black Sabbath. Then came Iron Maiden, Metallica. Then Megadeth, Death. That led me now to death and black metal, which I'm tentatively exploring right now . It's kind of interesting how I unintentionally went in (basically) chronological order of the different bands. I basically went through 50 years of metal at high speed . But it seems I've still missed some (75% )

Good point. Yeah. It's interesting how two albums can be rated a 10 but they can be so different. For example for me, Painkiller and Master of Reality are a 10, but obviously because of different reasons (Painkiller does speed metal perfectly while Master of Reality does slower/moody/doom riffs perfectly )

That is indeed interesting, which way you went. It is a good way I would say. And probably also good that you started with one go through in a rush so that you have a vague idea of what are the ankers at which you can go deeper. You can then take a second lap through it taking more time and go into details where ever you like.
Have fun at that, it will be a fantastic journey, I am confident.

Yes, it is.
I should add that my list and my ratings are 100% subjective and relate exclusively to how much I like the album, that is not even trying to put any tone of "objective quality" to it. That is why you may find albums that have commonly known high quality but just a medium or even low rate in my books. Not saying the album is bad, just not liking it...

And what music tickled your fancy like three years ago, if I may ask?
I always find it interesting how people got into metal. You don't sound very young, or am I wrong? Then it's even more interesting how you found your way to metal and MS, because when you're young most people try out a lot of things until they realize what they really like, and then they usually stick with it.

Thanks for asking. Here's more background about how I got into metal:
I'm twenty years old, so still young I would say . Up until about 2015 I listened mainly to contemporary pop music. Although I also enjoyed some rock music like One Republic and Linkin Park.
But then I happened to come across the band Arctic Monkeys (alternative rock/ indie rock) That was my first exposure to more underground/not-so-well-known music - so basically away from the radio-music. After listening to the similar band Last Shadow Puppets, I discovered Muse, which is a bit closer to metal music, I'd say. After the movie Guardians of the Galaxy came out, I started researching older music. That led me to hard rock such as AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Nirvana, etc. I probably heard at some point songs like "Enter Sandman" or "The Trooper", but they hadn't clicked with me yet. I think someone had even shown me the awesome riff of Raining Blood but I didn't look further into it.
Finally, one day in late 2018/early 2019, one of my friends at school showed me the songs "Electric Eye" and "Chains (Take These)" by Judas Priest. That sparked my interest in metal. I looked up the Screaming for Vengeance album on YouTube, and soon was recommended Defenders of the Faith. I absolutely loved the fast pace, the wild yet melodic guitar playing, the energetic vocals - and the overall fun that was in every song!
After that, I listened to individual classics such as Holy Diver, Heaven and Hell, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Hallowed Be Thy Name. Interestingly enough, I didn't like Iron Maiden at first. Their songs were too long for me. So I basically sticked to Metallica, Judas Priest, Dio, and Black Sabbath for the rest of 2019. I also discovered Pink Floyd, which I really liked - especially their instrumental work like on Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Echoes, and the solos on Time and Comfortably Numb.
In summer of 2020 there was another turning point when I discovered Megadeth's Rust in Peace album. Megadeth suddenly became my new favorite and I devoured their classic songs. I also gave Iron Maiden another chance and fell in love with Somewhere in Time and Powerslave.
At the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 I researched what the greatest metal albums are to see if I was missing anything. That's how I found Metal Storm, where I saw that bands like Death and Opeth, which I'd never heard before were among the top ten... the rest is history !
By using both YouTube recommendations and the Metal Storm lists, I started discovering more albums and bands that I had previously never heard of (Crimson by Edge of Sanity, Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection, IVth Crusade by Bolt Thrower, Beneath the Remains by Sepultura, At the Heart of Winter by Immortal, Jester Race by In Flames, etc etc).
In conclusion, I'm really glad I discovered Metal - now it's basically the only type of music I ever want to listen to... and it was all thanks to a chance occurrence at school.
I hope you (and who ever else reads this) liked my anecdote. Cheers!
And if I may ask, how did you discover metal?

I sure did, many thanks for your detailed answer.
I didn't have to discover metal. I am so old that I was standing right next to The Almighty when He created the elements.
Nah, to cut a longer story short, my recently deceased older brother had a good friend who was a metalhead. Let's call him Sven, because that's his name anyway.
This Sven pretty much tried everything to convert my brother to metal, but my brother simply didn't have much interest in music in general. So almost every weekend Sven brought some new metal tapes which he foisted on him. But sadly enough, he didn't really pay attention to the ever-growing pile of cassettes.
But I did.
Every day after school I sneaked into my still working brother's room and secretly played on his computer while listening to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Helloween and Warlock on his stereo. At first most of it was just noise to me and only a fraction of the songs appealed to me, but one day it clicked and the trigger was Manowar's "Carry On". In retrospect, a pretty primitive song, but catchy as hell, easy to roar along to, and just the right stuff for a 12-year-old pimple-faced kid to fall for metal forever.
Then, a few months later, said Sven overheard a hellish noise coming from my childhood bedroom, because I had discovered Bathory for myself, which he didn't knew yet. He was curious and approached me, we became good friends and still are now, over 30 years later.
End of story.
So I completely failed to estimate your age?
Hmm. I guess what irritated me is your good English, which is more than unusual for a 20-year-old German. My daughter is about your age and her vocabulary is limited to the words cool, YOLO, random and shit. And "you suck", because that's what she's yelling at me right now as I type this.

As for the answer to your question, maybe the country "Germany" in my profile is a bit misleading. My father is American, my mother is German. I went to an American school, but I'm right now studying physics at a German university. I'm bilingual in English and German.

So you double-crossed an old man with both your age and your background?
Shame on you.
But that explains a lot. And it is a good starting point to acquire the best oral and written language skills in both languages. You know, native speakers are often easily recognized by the typical mistakes a German wouldn't make. Confusing "there" with "their", for example.
"You're English is just to good, I should of known you where from Berlin, New Hampshire!"
To a German, there are four obvious mistakes in this sentence, because the other words, which sound identical in everyday speech, have nothing to do with each other to a non-native speaker.
By the way, sorry to Redel for hijacking his list. But I guess he doesn't mind.

The best is when you go to a Welsh village and the natives all speak English perfectly well to each other, but then as soon as they hear you talking and realise your English, they automatically start speaking in Welsh to each other, and refuse to speak English to you this has happened to me quite often, especially in pubs and cafe's, I've only really noticed this recently since my parents have moved to a Welsh village.

From the spectrum of albums you recently commented on here on ms I read that you are still exploring the widths and depths of metal. I remembered today that it was here that you said you were going in chronological order (basically). And I wonder, do you really stick to this route consequently, as it seems from the albums you comment on? Do you not feel the urge to check out any more recent albums from the bulk of metal out there today? Or do you do that from time to time, or do you plan to do that later? Sorry for overload of possibly bugging questions, I am just curious.

Hmm. I wonder which recent comments you're referring to. I don't think I've lately been doing anything in chronological order.
From Nikarg I discovered From the Deep (Lucifer's Fall) from 2021. I just discovered Candlemass's Epicus Doomicus Metallicus from 1986. I looked again at albums that I'd listened to a couple of months ago (Nocturnal Silence and Somberlain, for example). I found out that Bolt Thrower has kind of continued their career with the band Memoriam. And I just now discovered a symphonic masterpiece with Symphony X's V:The New Mythology Suite from 2000.
So, right now, I'm not really paying attention to chronological order. I'm just bouncing around through metal history, trying to find hidden gems
