From list: "Black metal is comparatively unfamiliar territory for me. A majority of my exposure is owed to progressive or avant-garde derivatives of the genre and the appeal of what I would call "raw" black metal has always eluded me. Perhaps this album does not qualify to be categorised as the latter, however it has opened up that door for me. What appeals to me is the vast emotive scope of the album. The dense, sinister, and pounding black metal elements that I once found so alien complements the songwriting rather than dominates it. The use of atmospheric melodic overtones are nearly ever-present, creatively employed to embellish the expression of the song. Whether in the form of an interlude's respite, chaotic interval strumming, or arpeggiated leads, there is no shortage of adventurous synergy between the various elements of the music. The ebb and flow of each song exhibits a storytelling nature, with the production lending a hand in enveloping the listener in its progression. At times I heard influences from Xanthochroid flowing through and, as such, it came as no surprise that both Sam and Matthew from said band contributed their vocals to the album. Nick Krueger, the solo-artist behind this project, is about as prolific as an artist can be without stretching themselves too thin, releasing albums in a multitude of styles spanning a handful of genres including electronic, chiptune, ambient, drone, and more.
