You miss a point, such thinks you should look, I mean to singer.
But same time such catchy pop rock songs is one song only, they are based on radio fredly singles, often it work, album, hmmmm few times only.

I have listened to few REO Speedwagon album, they had two periods - 70s hard rock/blues-rock and then by late 70s mellowed down a bit, new vocalist, more melodic, became huge.
