It seems more melodeath than metalcore to me which is definitely not a bad thing. It's a decent album overall, there's a lot of variation from softer parts to heavy chugging, and some striking Amon Amarth style riffs which are the highlight for me.

I'm not all that familiar with Neaera, I did listen to them a bit a few years back when I was deep into German metalcore with Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban, but didn't click as much with Neaera. There was something missing, even though I couldn't put my finger on it. They killed it when I saw them live at Wacken though.

Now this album is the most brutal I remember them. It sounds dark, harsh, very intense. I felt a stronger Heaven Shall Burn vibe than before, which is great because HSB have so much energy. But they still keep a much fuller and heavier production than HSB. This might definitely be my way into Neaera, and an album that will have a spot in my end of year top.

This might definitely be my way into Neaera

Then check out Armamentarium. Definitely their best album.

After a few more spins for this one, I think I pinpointed why it caught my attention more than their earlier work. I hear some blackened crust influences in this one. It sounds rougher, more passionate, and darker as a result. It reminds me a bit of the energy Ancst convey in their music.
