Bands that quit too early

What bands do you think quit way too early? Like, man these first albums they released were so great, and then they just quit and didn't give more of themselves to the world. I think we all know about bands that overstay their welcome and just churn out the same old, same old. But on the other side of the spectrum? For me, the four that comes to mind immediately are Anorexia Nervosa, Deathember, Chastisement and Grand Alchemist.

Might not be in the same category as some of your examples since they did manage 5 full albums plus some other miscellaneous releases, but I'm sure if they could've continued working together that Isis would've made some more amazing music. Tangential to that, it's a shame that Palms was a once-and-done

Age Of Silence. Used to be one of my favorite bands for the tounge-in-cheek nihilism on Acceleration and its unique style. I wish they would do a follow-up to that.

Who knows what a proper Timeghoul album would've sounded like.

Maybe not that early but I wasn't ready for Horn Of The Rhino to stop making music. Especially since their last album is one of my all time favourite of that genre. I also support Radu with Timeghoul and I would add Lykathea Aflame, Barn Burner & Quo Vadis. God there's so many come to think of it... What a tough business to be in. On the other hand some bands reunite here and there and I'm glad to see there might be hope for Kylesa releasing new material!!!

Aenygmist and I was gonna say Atoma, but I see their still active, though no album since 2012. I know nobody will agree with me here, but since their 2nd album is one of my favourite albums, I'll say Gallhammer, too.

I'd say Forced Entry, Wrathchild America, Uncle Slam, Sabbat (the one from the UK), Deathrow, Dyoxen and Cyclone Temple. An honorable mention would be Atrophy, they broke up in the early 90's after just two albums but they've since been active again and released a new album last March called Asylum.

A lot of great entries, and a lot I don't know of. Going to be fun to dive in and find some new gems.

Easily the best example is Weakling who dispanded after their masterpiece Dead As Dreams

Here's my definitive answer: every band that anyone likes and wants to hear new music from that disbanded quit too early

^sometimes, as much as you enjoy a band and want new stuff, it feels right to disband. was the case for me with both Urfaust and Svartidauði. among my absolute favorites and wouldn't have minded some new albums (especially the daudi boys), but there is something satisfying looking at their catalog knowing that's it.

Lykathea Aflame, kept in touch with Tomas for a while in the 2010s to see if it were to happen, but sadly no... Sindrome, I'm still fascinated with their 2nd demo (Vault of Inner Conscience) and while a full length couldn't have worked the same way after Rob Welsh left, still leaves me wondering what would've happened... Damned Spirits' Dance, saw them live in half-baked state before they disappeared, would be nice to see a follow-up... Insect Warfare, that singular record is such a jam Unexpect, nothing can quite do the same thing they did... Kalisia, I understand that creating that album took unparalleled dedication, but the epic style should deserve a continuation... Ark, one of those cases of Jorn Lande leaving a band unable to continue just as they are taking off Koyaanisqatsy, great themes but would've been nice to actually hear them with a singer... Martyr, once again nothing else is quite the same mixture of madness Gwynbleidd, they seemingly have been in pre-production for another record circa 10 years ago but no word since... Hieronymus Bosch, 3 records are not enough when it only gets better with every single one... Was about to include Axamenta, but I just see now they are back with an EP after 18 years...

Not sure if they count since they're technically still active, but Gallowbraid.

Barn Burner, Insect Warfare and Weakling are all great choices, provided their hypothetical follow up albums maintained the same quality (especially the one album only bands). My contribution is Murmuüre.

Atramentus and The Devastated. Stygian by Atramentus was released in 2020. They may not be one and done, but there hasn't been a lick of news since. The Devastated released one album in 2012 called 'Devil's Messenger'
