For those who are familiar with the music of Between The Buried And Me, this new EP presents no major changes in their sound. Their recipe for a musical experience is the same. In their case, however, continuity can be a good thing because they continue to challenge themselves. If you are listening to the band for the first time, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues is a good example of what they are capable of; the experimental, progressive, aggressive and inventive facets of the band are all present in this release.

"Specular Reflection" opens the EP with a blast of diversity, with both explosions of the extreme kind, always with some catchy element or particular riff which breaks the (in)stability, and the exploration of more serene, melodic and progressive paths, the usual BTBAM ingredients. Also, it is on par with some of their best songs. The other two songs are equally interesting: "Lunar Wilderness" is more dreamy and adventurous, while "Augment Of Rebirth" is more obscure and focuses mainly on the open exploration of the heavier side of the band; both have plenty of shining moments.

All of the songs are intertwined by concept. This contributes to the general feeling found in the EP which ends up being similar to that of a musical journey where the listener rides this ever-expanding wheel of experiments with sounds, riffs and styles which blend and go well together.

The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues is complex and technical, and reveals a refined band which shows no sign of slowing down. With it, the band continues to expand their musical dialogues. Also, it fits naturally in the band's discography as a step forward and proves that the experimental and progressive nature of their music remain some of their most enjoyable traits, enriching the songs. Overall, this EP helps us quench the thirst for now as it is a very good teaser for the full-length album that is set to be released in 2012.
