Amethyste comes from the North of France and plays a really strong and aggressive Death Metal. Actually, "Thrown Off Balance" was produced first as a self-released, but the band got lately a deal of distribution with the French label, Thundering Records and I'm now doing, two years later, the review of this album.

This is the first time that I hear something about Amethyste but the band seems to be really solid. Their first album "Thrown Off Balance" is a classic album of Death Metal, understand strong and heavy riffs, fast tempo aggressive vocals and etc. This is not extremely new, I have to admit it, I don't have the feeling, when I'm listening to this album, that I'm in front of something really new but on the other hand it's solid, yes. Though, "Thrown Off Balance" is not only a synonym of aggression. The music is extremely technical and well the change of rhythms (between fast and mid tempo) are really enjoyable. At the end it reminds me a bit the music of Morbid Angel, this is not basic, there is a lot of work on the writings.

Even if it was a self-production first, "Thrown Off Balance" is well produced, really it's hard to find such production with this kind of release, the artworks are really nice and at the end we're in front of a really good album of Death Metal that only suffers maybe of a little lack of personality. But honestly when I see the quality of the release, I' sure actually that it will be simple for Amethyste to confirms with a new album that they're not only a basic newcomer. I'm sure that the band will probably kick some asses in the world of Death Metal.

If you like good Death in the spirit of Morbid Angel, don't miss this release. For a first album it's extremely promising and let me tell you that we will hear about this band in the future.
