Lake Bodom? Nah, this summer I'm going to Lake Crystal!
Is time to get really brutal in here, from the moment the Cd arrived at my door, I knew this would be fun, I mean, Grindcore Cd based on the Jason characters from the eighties hit movies Friday the 13th? How come nobody thought of this before? Luckily for us, someone in the Netherlands thought this well and decided to do an album based on the murders committed in lake Crystal.
First thing I must say is that the artwork is just great, awesome stuff, one of the best this year, although it's only an alternative version of the poster from the original movie, released back in 1980.
Thinks look well, until I put in the Cd. Music is great, great catchy, grind stuff, but the vocals simply suck big time. They're undecipherable, they're not even growls, is like the guy stuck a sock in his mouth and then he started singing underwater, yeah, damn scary!
Besides that letdown, the album is quite good, great riffs, entertaining song themes, awesome sound clips from the movie and all things that makes a Grindcore album great.
Besides those totally out of place overly pitch-shifted vokills, the album doesn't fail to keep you glued to its groovy, catchy sound with their super ultra down-tuned guitars and bass (they even sound a little like many Drone Doom bands I know). While the vocals may freak some people, I strongly recommend to check this one out, is definitively worth your time.
