1998 was like AMAZING, by far the best year since I started this series, one of the best years in Symphonic and power metal, strong releases in black metal, and one of the most Iconic matel albums of all time. Not a bad year for metal. Would never come to mind as one of the best years for sure. But now having thought about it a bit, there were quite a handful of relevant releases for me. My top ones are: 1. Death - The Sound Of Perseverance 2. Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse 3. Anathema - Alternative 4 4. Tristania - Widow's Weeds 5. Gates Of Ishtar - At Dusk And Forever 6. Iced Earth - Something Wicked This Way Comes 7. The Gathering - How To Measure A Planet? 8. Theatre Of Tragedy - Aégis 9. Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth 10. Runemagick - The Supreme Force Of Eternity 11. Night In Gales - Thunderbeast 12. Solstice - New Dark Age 13. Virgin Steele - Invictus 14. Incantation - Diabolical Conquest 15. Exhumed - Gore Metal
