Netzach's Top Songs 2023

As 2023 is coming to an end, and I grow one year closer to death, also YouTube Music seems to have jumped on the "recap" train following Spotify's template. It's not as accurate as Spotify, telling me not much more than 65% of my listening being simply "heavy metal" (unlike Spotify which separates into subgenres, but I still prefer YouTube Music for various reasons), 8% rock, 2% indie, 2% pop, and 2% reggae. My top "moods" were 39% dramatic, 39% sorrowful, 14% energising, 3% uplifting, 3% happy. My 5 top artists were Impaled Nazarene, Senshi, Bloodywood, Kypck, and Turmion Kätilöt.

I'm a bit surprised by some of these stats, such as electronic music not appearing among my top genres (I still listen to Shpongle a lot and will do so until I die), "angry" not being one of my top moods, and alternative metal being so heavily featured among my top bands, but I can't fight the stats, I guess. Here are my most listened to songs in 2023 according to YouTube Music's recap.

1. Bloodywood - Aaj (Sounds about right, I love their zany, folk-infused take on alt metal.)
2. Arkona - Kob' (Equal parts progressive and atmospheric, all parts fantastic.)
3. Bloodywood - Gaddaar (This is what happens when you mostly listen album-wise, folks.)
4. Anamnesi - La Precessione Degli Equinozi (Perhaps the best meloblack I've ever heard.)
5. Senshi - Evil In Dem Eyes (Reggae metal? Shouldn't work, but it does, and is fun as hell.)
6. Käärijä - Cha Cha Cha (Finland's Eurovision song should've won, because ours was boring.)
7. Turmion Kätilöt - Totuus (This latest offering of extreme disco metal is as good as expected.)
8. Bloodywood - Jee Veerey (The band shows off its melodic, folksy side with pretty results.)
9. Bloodywood - Zanjeero Se (Second best song on an album I've listened to a lot.)
10. Cult Of Luna - In Awe Of (10 years since its release and I still can't get it out of my head.)
11. Shining - Tillsammans Är Vi Allt (Not my go-to song as far as Shining is concerned, hmm...)
12. Kouta - Äitimaan Laulu (Probably the best use of backing vox I've heard this year.)
13. Senshi - The Fall (Just the intro to their latest album.)
14. Impaled Nazarene - 66.6 S Of Foreplay (Intro, shows how much I still love Latex Cult.)
15. Kypck - Простой Рассказ / Я Сам Собою (This year's most obnoxiously catchy riff.)
16. Senshi - Hold On Tight (Yep, still holding on tight to this album. Energetic and super fun.)
17. CMX - Pedot (This is actually my morning alarm ringtone, so that explains that.)
18. Kypck - Ты Испортил Всё (Just the intro to a fantastic album.)
19. Kypck - Чёрный Бал (Lai lai lai lai lai lai laaai...)
20. Impaled Nazarene - Delirium Tremens (When yesterday was shit and tomorrow shittier.)
21. Senshi - Red Alert (From their first album, and probably their best song overall.)
22. Turmion Kätilöt - Verestä Sokea (Hei! Hei! Hakkaan saatana naamani seinään!)
23. Impaled Nazarene - Zum Kotzen (Don't read the lyrics, folks. Obnoxiously catchy and brutal.)
24. My Sleeping Karma - Prema (For when you've had too much distortion for one day.)
25. Enslaved - Behind The Mirror (I can't remember listening to this at all, but if you say so.)
