Aberrant Vascular - Aegisthus

Stretching the limits of the genre, these Finns bring us symphonic metal in most experimental form. Atmospheric space combined with operatic bravado leaves us with a most interesting listening experience. No description will do it justice, this album is more of an experience for the individual. The strong symphonic-vocal inclinations give way to fresh ideas in orchestration, an invigorating album worthy of top honors in any curious music lover's collection.

Diabulus In Musica - The Wanderer

MySpace music player
The Wanderer is full of variety and excitement; EPIC is certainly the name of the game and the energy and passions are high. Diabulus In Musica stick to symphonic metal roots while incorporating many aspects of peripheral genres. This is a beautiful improvement from their 2010 debut as the band continued forward to produce something far exceeding their first work. Even after repeated spins you'll still find countless hidden treasures and new tunes to adore.

Dol Ammad - Cosmic Gods: Episode I - Hyperspeed

MySpace music player
With all the operatic vocals enhanced by the electronic blips over the blistering bullet riffs, you'd be forgiven for thinking you've been transported in the midst of a dramatic space battle scene from Star Wars. As the battle unfolds, you're left in peace (and presumably in pieces) as it all ends in a glorious cosmic utopia.

Inner Fear - First Born Fear

Keyboard driven symphonic fury and catchy anthems really make this album stand out among the droves of symphonic copycats that have arrived on the scene in recent years. The melodic black metal sensibilities shine through, complemented by female operatic vocals that work to perfection. With something for everyone, the brutality wanes into atmospheric beauty, and we are left to enjoy an album of epic proportions.

Leah - Of Earth & Angels

Leah's debut album is a feast for lovers of symphonic rock and metal. She calmly weaves diversity into her singular, personal style, and created an album you'll have on repeat for ages. Choice folk elements team up with soulful, non-cheesy ballads and harder-hitting tunes to create a very special album. It's not like any others and it's not what you're expecting. Don't miss this addictive debut.

Lumus - Bacchus' Curse

When one of the founding members of a symphonic metal band is the violinist, you can safely assume you're in for a treat. Lumus's talented players come together to create a rich, dark, velvety textured album that perhaps was only possible due to their impassioned team work instead of relying on any guest string players for atmosphere. Either that, or they're just damn good. Bacchus' Curse is a stunning debut featuring the kind of top notch vocals, guitar work, and songwriting not always found together in such a glorious package.

Pythia - The Serpent's Curse

MySpace music player
Words like "bombastic" could easily describe this album, yet The Serpent's Curse still manages to play with a wide variety of tempos and moods. There are beautiful keyboards lending intense color and texture in which you could easily be swept away, and overall most songs are quite heavy thanks to powerful guitar work. The pace is fast and the hard-hitting drums gallop onward hinting at power metal roots. In fact, the songwriting is so interesting and well composed that plenty of progressive elements can't help but slip in from time to time. Topping off the excellent instrumentation is a special, unique, and talented soprano who ensures the Pythia experience is like no other.

Saturnian - Dimensions

The convergence of the two metal dimensions of symphonic and black is far from uncommon with the abundance of acts following in the wake of bands such as Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. Saturnian manage to stand out from the pack with their synth soaked astral projections, creating an intriguing symphonic extremity whisking around within a cosmic setting.

Whyzdom - Blind?

MySpace music player
Rather than taking the easier route of being some vocal driven outfit with simplistic poppy tunes with guitars slapped on as an afterthought, Whyzdom bucks the trend and came up with their most ambitious release to date. The layered harmonies and progressions are a sophisticated affair that's backed by a full blown symphonic orchestra, and navigating one's way around the music could take some effort, but that's exactly what makes this album worth coming back to time and time again.

Xandria - Neverworld's End

MySpace music player
Let's be honest, there will always be some that will really want Nightwish to go back their old sound, and Xandria is here to bring back those nostalgic memories, and then some. Surprisingly heavy and pleasantly catchy, Neverworld's End gallops along with some hero worship, but with style and great execution that you'll never want it to end.
